Stupid but not abusive. Had the only reason for removing the children been their names then the judge should have forced them to change names. Are they removed permanently?

I assume that under the same law child protection will also be removing all Osama Bin Ladens?

I'm not sure the kids should have been taken away, I'm interested in reading everyone else's comments.
I will say that it takes a very "special" person to name their more precious miracles after people so volatile. They are absolutely allowed to have whatever beliefs they want but they are, in my opinion, opening their children up to a lifetime of ridicule and (let's face it) failure. What's the office going to think when their new supervisor is Adolf Hitler?

I can see the point about their freedom to choose these kinds of names, but think about the kind of lives these children will lead as they get older. In the very least, they'll be teased to high heaven, and probably won't have a lot of friends in middle school, high school and adulthood. Also, the parents' beliefs and chosen lifestyle can and likely do promote hate speech and involve speech inciting violence against others, neither of which are protected by the First Amendment.

I personally do not think these children should be taken away based on names....some people who are not theists do not like it when people name their children biblical names because of what they stand for...something they dont believe in, thats ridiculous Many people criticize what celebrities name their children because they are stupid...but its just criticism, its not abuse, sometimes its just poor judgement...people say the kids are going to be teased...news flash, teasing is going to occur no matter what you name you children. If its not for one reason its for another. Its a part of growing up. Perhaps they will be teased more so than not, but hello! people have at least 7-8 months to think of the consequences, if they didnt take that chance I'm sorry for the child but thats just what it is...we cannot go around infringing upon their rights because of their stupid name choices...it is not an endangerment, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me."

Anyway, I do see Brittany's point, however, we are not talking a child named Adolf or Aryan. We are talking a child named Adolf Hitler or Aryan Nation. If it were only the first names, I would not see them as being in any way offensive thing to call a child, but it wasn't. So therefore the name Ted wouldn't be something offensive to call a child, but Ted Bundy would. Casey is okay, but calling that child Casey Anthony is a rather stupid and cruel thing to do to a child.

I am on the fence about it being abuse. By naming a child these names, you are subjecting them to a level of unnecessary attention and humiliation. Okay, so the kids can change their names when they are older, I get that, but by then, the damage is done.

Really Sherri? You have never heard of candida? It's not cultural. It's actually the REAL scientific name for a genus of yeast and causes thrush. It's pretty common knowledge.

I agree Brittany. The name has nothing to do with the atrocities. We are putting far too much weight on it and the more people who use them, the less reaction we will have to them. I'd love to hear George Carlin's riff on this issue.

I mean I could see Chlamydia being a great name if I didn't know what it meant. It kind of sounds like a flower.

Just some background on this, this all started in 2008 when a grocery store refused to make the family a Birthday Cake displaying the child's name.

The point here is what is in a name? I do not agree with the things Adolf Hitler did or the thought of Aryan Nation but, does that mean people should not name their kids Adolf or Aryan?

Granted these people are nuts have I have been loosely following this story since 2008, the question still does remain what is in a name?

The Region of Brittany, in the early days made up of Irish and Catholics, was tied to the Nazi Party. Should my parents not have named me Brittany becuase of it?

Should we not be allowed to name of children Mary becuase, of the negative connotations to The Mother Mary or Queen Mary? What about Charles in relation to Charles in relation to Mr. Manson? Ted, Ted Bundy? Casey, Casey Anthony? George, George Bush?

There were other things going in that home and that is why the children were removed. I, persoanlly, would not name my children those names simply becuase, I do not like them. I am not German, I have ZERO German Blood in me, my husband has no German blood in him, I am Irish, my children have Irish names, I have an Irish name. I want to keep my family ties. I have nothing against Germans it just seems silly to name three children with strong Irish ties German names.

The wonderful thing is they can choose as to what they want to be called. Adolf can ask to be called Al, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation can ask to be called Lynn or Joyce and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie can ask to be called Jenny. No one has to know and when they reach the age of 18, if they so choose, they can have their names legally changed.

My oldest son will answer to any three of his names, my daughter prefers to be called Gael Rhionnah and my youngest son is going through a phase where he refuses to answer to anything but, Bat-Moose, yes Bat-Moose.

It is abusive to inflict your own child with names like those.They stand for so much that is wrong.Why would a normal parent want to do it?Its emotionally abusive in my book.There innocent children who have really messed up parents.

Regardless of any neglect etc they would of still suffered due to there parents because of there name choices and there messed up beliefs.The will grew up to believe it because they have no other choice.

Also when there grown and move on and maybe not want to be apart of there parents thinking/beliefs there stuck with really offensive names and the memories of what the would of seen surrounding hatred towards others.

I think racism is a religion .... they use the Bible - the klan bases all of its ideas off the Bible, as does the aryan nation ....

Much like the taliban bases their ideas off of the Qur’an – to the chagrin of Muslims everywhere.

I wouldn't say simply giving the children those names is, in and of itself, abusive. But, it does show extremely poor judgement, which would lead me to wonder what other areas of parenting those parents were showing poor judgement in. If I was a child welfare worker in their area, I'd be inclined to keep an extra close eye on them, that's for sure!

I don't believe it is/was abusive... more a strong lack of compassion and just plain idiocy. I do believe it would open them up to years upon years of judgment and bullying from other kids, and possibly adults as well.



Its sad that some parents like to use their children as their "jesters" if you will with things like this. Those children could grow into mirror images of who they are named after all because they had morons for parents.

I believe the names are abusive. Not just for what they stand for,which I despise, but because they have labeled these kids until they are at least 18. Would it be abusive to name your child Jeffery Dahmer? I think so. I think the parents supreme lack of judgement did open them up to the abuse allegations. I haven't seen a lot of proof that they are true. It bothers me a bit that I am not upset that the kids were removed from that home. I am a defender of personal rights, and hate the goverment sticking it's nose were it doesn't belong, but somehow, this case, I think it is almost justified.

No. I personally wouldn't have named my children any of these because they are just really bad names, but I would name my child these names for fear they would be picked on when they grew older. In Germany, Adolf is (or was) a very popular name. These people are just stupid for giving these children these names.
