My daughter is 6 years old now and she has been biting her nails and the skin around the nails for as long as I can remember, Ive tried that nail polished stuff thats supposed to stop them biting but that hasnt worked. Her habit has got so bad that she even started picking and trying to pull off the nail. Can anybody help or have some advice for me, I have no idea what to do!!! :(

not sure what to do.. my son bites all of his nails as well .. not the skin though.. he just doesnt want me to clip them.. maybe thats why he does it.. he has so much energy maybe that is his way of slowing down.. don't really know. when i was young i also was a nail biter.. i stopped after a girl in high school told me of a story involving rape and the police catching the guy because she scratched him.. guess scaring an individual would work.. :0)

Our son bites his nails too, but it comes and goes it's not constant. I have put hot sauce on his fingers and that has worked pretty good, he can't stand hot sauce! My husband bites his nails terribly and I often ask my son if he wants his nails to look like Dads and that usually stops him for awhile too. I know, it's a tough habit to break!
