My 4 yr old has taken up this new thing.he decided to lie to me tonight when i asked him if him & his brother were done cleaning their bedroom.i made him finish picking up the toys and then put him in the corner.Any idea's of how to break him from that?

My 41/2 year old has started doing this too, but adding that "it is just a joke". I taught him about the boy who cried wolf, and explained to him that a joke is something that is funny, and lying is not along with the fact that people can get hurt or angry from his "jokes" and that people will stop believing him altogether and when something really serious happens, how will we know to believe it or not? I then put a chart up & for each time he did it, he got one privilege taken away. It took about a week but he has since stopped doing it as often

My son does this too... I always ask him if he's sure that the room is done... So he runs to his room and goes no we got a few more things lol... there are a few times he's like ya and i tell him if he's lying to me that he wont get to do whatever it is he wants to do... like a movie or a game or go outside... He knows that he will not get any privileges if they don't get their room cleaned and they will stay in their til its done.

I would keep on what you are already doing, my little one has started doing this and i just usually explain that its really bad to lie and then really praise him for the good things he does
