Half Birthday Celebration

My beautiful daughter has a birthday on Dec. 18, that's painfully close to Christmas. I was wondering if maybe a small get together around the birthday then a little more of a blowout for her half birthday would be better. I was thinking there would be a chance to get her gifts that she would be more interested in (ie. pool pass, or 6 flags pass) Getting these things then having to stash them away for 5-6 months doesn't seem like they would be as much fun as getting them for a half birthday. Plus, this past birthday/Christmas I couldn't think of 1 more thing to tell people to get her, by the time I found the extra time to go shopping I found that I had given all my ideas away to everyone else.

What does everyone think about this? Is this a form of punishment for a birthday she can't help or is it a good idea to spread it out? I'm totally open to opinions.

This is a good idea! I never heard of this before! My baby boy was born on Dec. 3. When I was younger I never wanted a baby close to the holidays...haha. My friends always got screwed on presents. Or everything would be wrapped in holiday paper, thus taking away celebrating their birthday. I had a party for my little one in Dec. and when it came to the holiday no one bought him anything, (except for us and grandparents) I don't think that it is very fair for someone else in the family that has a birthday in June gets showered with gifts, then get just as much around the holidays. But people think since they just bought him something, that it will do for both Holiday and Birthday. Please don't think that I'm greedy, but I don't see how it is fair.

My son is December 29th, and I am planning a party for June... so I think it's a great idea. It's such a long time to go without a celebration when everything happens at once in December.

I agree with the half birthday. My daughter was born on the 12th. My husband and I decided when she is old enough to under stand her birthday that we will celebrate in June and then have a small get together on her birthday. (ps look at it this way she gets to have 2 parties a year! I don't think she'll complain!)

I think it's a great idea. My son was born on December 26. Even closer. Really bad timing but what can you do right?

Hi Claudia,

My daughter is also born really close to Xmas and her brother's birthday. So we decided that after this year we are going to do half birthdays. That way she can enjoy a different season-besides having to share present opening with the rest of the family doesn't make it very special.
