My son's birthday is December 26th and we are considering celebrating with a half birthday party. We were thinking just cake, ice cream and games but no presents unless people insist and then we would request book donations to give to less fortunate children. Our thought is that more kids would be available to attend a summer party. What do you think and are you also considering half birthday celebrations? Thanks in advance! Wendy

My son's birthday is December 23rd and I was thinking about half birthdays also. Thought it would be great when he starts school so he can have a summer party with his friends and then family and close friends around his birthday. I know a few people that do this and love it.

My daughters birthday is December 23 so we hold a party for her in January. Everyone loves this idea and it gives us a chance to save money .when she start school she may not understand and I already have three older ones, they wouldn't understand!!

We are planning on starting that as well when my son is school age. Now birthdays are just family and family friends..

I am having my daughter's Name Giving Day on the 19th July when she will be 19 months old (her birthday is the 19th December). I am then going to celebrate every year on the 19th June or July with a half birthday as I don't think it's fair to miss out on a special birthday because you are born so close to Christmas. Everybody who is born at other times of the year get a special birthday so I don't want my princess to miss out. I think half birthday's are a fantastic idea!!

Thanks! My sister-in-law told me that my nephew (who is now school aged) has a friend that has a Christmas birthday and his party is always the last day of school before Christmas break. She said all the kids look forward to it because schools out and it is a great way to start the Christmas break ... with a birthday party!!! Maybe something to consider when our kiddo's are older!

My family has been telling me that when my daughter starts to realize her birthday, than we should have a half birthday. My daughter was born Dec. 20th, so my family and I are thinking maybe June 20th or July 20th just so it wont be so close to the holidays.

Plus when she starts school more of her friends will be able to attend and join in on the fun.

I dont know if this helps, but @ least you know you're not alone on the 1/2 birthday idea :)

Our son is 18 months. I really like the idea of having a special day that is something we will consider! Thanks so much!

I was considering it too, but we decided not to have a party. Instead we are going to do something special w/ Kailynn. We are going to take her to get her ears pierced, get her pictures taken and then take her to get a special present. Unfortunately, since her bday is in December she got a little shorted on the presents to save $$ for Christmas (which I wanted to avoid as much as possible!). So we want to make up for it during the time of year where the $$ isn't shorted so much!

I think it's cool! How old is your son? I totally understand the winter birthday thing ... especially the winter christmas birthday thing, lOl! My son's birthday is Dec 20th. Because his birthday was so long ago ... I think it's great you are saying no presents! I say, go for it!!
