I have been potty training my son for about a yr now. I try not to push it but I feel like it is time now for him to fulling potty trained. I understand that boys can be harder but I just don't understand the games he plays. He does just fine with peeing in the potty. He lets me know when he has to go and we both race to the toliet. When he has to poop he goes and hides. I feel like if he has enough sense to go off and hide by himself then he has enough sense to go to the toliet. I feel like this is our last obsticle and I am stuck on what to do. Please HELP!! :-)

Here is how I potty train my kids. After having tons of trouble with my first (took 6+ months) I decided I was going to find an effective solution and it has worked on my last two. I pick a week/weekend (you either need to be off & at home or have their care provider in COMPLETE cooperation) Get a timer, underwear, a waterproof mat or 2 and M & M's. NO DIAPERS during the day AT ALL!!! Put in underwear and set the timer for 30 min. (adjust to 15 in needed) every 30 min go to bathroom and sit on potty for 5 min or until goes. Reset timer and repeat. 1 M & M for trying/sitting, 2 for pee, 4 for poop. Expect lots of accidents the first day, 2nd day mine ususally have picked up on how many M & M's they are supposed to get for which, and by day 3 or 4 mine have been trained. They have had occasional accidents, but rare, and to be expected. We continue the M & M's for about a week or two. BTW ~ The waterproof mat is for naptime and car rides once brave enough. I never put a diaper back on mine during the day once we have started training....no matter how inconvienant accident and bathroom breaks may be.

For your pooping problem I would do exactly this and tell him he'll get 4 everytime he goes poop in the potty. I have never had a problem with them not going once I stop the M & M's...they may ask but we just remind them they don't need them to potty anymore b/c they are a big kid now. Good Luck!!!

Well it''s nice to know I am not the only one with this problem,My son soon to be 3 Dec 20th also is potty trained when it comes to pee in the potty but he refuses to poop in the pot. He also goes and hides only difference he IS in big boy under wear and he still poops in his pants. Not just once or twice,he does it everyday and it doesn't seem to bother him at all. It's so frustrating,I feel like I have tried everything to get him to stop. I even every hour or so put him on the potty and he just wont do it. He does so well with pee and even sleeps at night with under wear on and never pees the bed. I know he knows what he is doing so I am just lost. Stickers wont help, treats, toys NOTHING! It's almost like he enjoys pooping on himself. So as of now I had no choice to go back to pull ups, buying new under wear every week is starting to add up. Now he is back in pull ups and thankfully is still peeing in the potty,so maybe soon he will just grow out of it.

I am glad I am not the only one. my son always poops in his pants. He has worn big-boy underwear for 6 months and still goes in them almost every day. We tell him "Thomas (or whatever chartacter he is wearing) will be really mad if he has poop on him" but it doesn't help. We've tried stickers, and even ice cream cones, but nothing works consistently. I am hoping he will grow out of it sometime while he is 3.

Yeah my daughter done the same thing for the first few weeks of potty training. Would go do wee's but poo's in the pants. She still very rarely does it. I dunno wat it is about the poop. Lol. But like the other mums said best tips r lots of enthusiasm, mayb a rewards chart with stickers, and a child insert for the toilet which is wat my daughter has. And also mayb pick his FAVOURITE thing (eg spiderman, batman, wiggles etc etc) and try to find undies with those on them. Then wen he poops in em say do u want mummy to throw them out? Coz they r all gross and dirty now. Hopefully he will protest and u simply say well if u do poo's in them mummy will hav to throw them out.

Not sure if these things will work or if u hav already tried them but good luck anyway. Toilet training is such a pain in the butt lol

Hi, Vida,
I had the same problem with my son for a bit. We also did the potty dance then the race to the bathroom game, and he had no problem with the pee pee. Apparently number 2 is a horse of a different color though, because it definitely wasn't happening in the potty!I'd find him hiding behind the rocking chair or his bed pooping. Finally I just put him in the underwear anyhow, and after a couple disgusting messes he decided he didn't like it in his big boy pants. Unfortunately I think you just have to suck it up, and deal with the mess a couple times :( Gross I know, but it worked for us...

Lots of luck!!

what i did with my son cause we was potty train for the most part. he would pee and bo bo if he had to. but when it came to time when he was have a poll up on would also go ahead in them. so what i did was put him in big boy underwear. he went one time and never did it again. but that just what i did. it may work for you or it may not.

I had the opposite problem with my son. He would poop on the potty no problem and pee in his pants all the time. Then for a while it switched around. What i did was when he went on the potty whether it was poop or pee i showed alot of excitement and praise, we gave high fives and i told him he was such a good boy for peeing or pooping on the potty. I would even reward him with a sticker for using the potty. When he would have an accident if it was on purpose i would show disapointment and be sad that he went in his pants being he knew how to use the potty. After switching to that he had maybe 3 accidents. I still to this day show him praise and excitement when he uses the potty and he has been good ever since. My son has also only ever showed interest in the potty that mommy and daddy use and never liiked his own potty. Try getting one of those potty inserts for a big toilet and see is he likes that better. Hope it helps!

My nephew did the same thing. He'd actually go and put on a pull up on his own. My sister finally stopped buying pull ups. She had him pick out his own underwear at the store, and after one accident, he was done! Good luck!
