My son will be 4 tomorrow and still refuses to use the potty. We have a 1 year old also and I'm not sure if having a another baby who uses diapers still is influencing his decision or what. I have tried everything from bribes, praise, sharing my disappointment with him and he doesn't seem to want to change his mind? Am I doing something wrong or is this really just his way of making his own first HUGE decision?

thank god im not the only one dealing with this! my son turned 4 today and is the most stubborn boy ever! sometimes when its quiet he will tell me he has to go but its very rare. when hes doing something (playing with toys, being with friends or family) he will go in his pants! i have an 11 month old daughter and another boy due in march and i keep telling him that jordyn (my daughter) is a baby so she wears diapers, and that austin (my son) is a big boy so he needs to go in the potty. he will cry whenever i ask him to sit on the potty! ive tried everything! hes in pre-school and they help him but when hes home he doesnt care! i want him in kindergarden next year but the only thing that would hold him back is him not wanting to learn to potty train :(

He has also had the opportunity to pick out the underwear he wanted and he also asked for some for his birthday and christmas and got exactly what he wanted. I am hoping he starts going sooner rather than later. I know he will one day decide to go and realize how much easier it is and how much better it feels to be diaper free. We have also been putting my one year old on the toilet when he starts squatting so he gets the idea that he can use the toilet too and I hope that makes them both realize they don't need diapers anymore.

We tried an afternoon of no diapers and we only went through two sets of wet clothing. He would sit on the toilet so good for about 15 to 20 minutes and then want to get up and the moment he would get dressed again he would run off and pee his pants. Maybe a couple of days may make a different, but he is being very stubborn!

Have you tried cold turkey? Have him go to the store with you, pick out his own underwear and throw out the pull ups. A couple of days of having to change himself (if wet) and he might decide it's time.

My grandma has told me that he will go in his own time in his own way and I do believe that! I am just having a hard time understanding why it is so difficult of a decision. He knows when he has to go. If we put him on the potty every half an hour he sits there for ever and the minute he gets a diaper back on he runs off and does his business where we can't see him! I just don't understand? I'm frustrated with the fact that he is such a smart kid and knows soo much yet still refuses to make this one huge step. I am sure he will be potty trained before school starts I am just concerned as I'm sure all of us in this same boat are! Good Luck to the rest of you struggling to potty train parents!

Same problem here. My son turned 4 this past weekend and still pees in his pants. He will go poop if he feels the urge, but could care less about the pee. He will go if we make him, but doesn't volunteer. I've tried bribes, praise, the whole bit, and nothing seems to help.
