Hi everyone. My daughter is 16 months old and just went for her 15 month shots on Tuesday. She got the chickenpox vaccine but chickened out on the MMR. Dr wants me to do my research and come back in a few weeks to have it as well. I was just wondering if any of your children had any reaction to their vaccine? Thanks for the help!

there ARE a lot of side effects to the MMR but we're definitely doing it!! we broke it up into 3 separate shots though (we got measles last month and now will get rubella next I believe).. they offer it split up at my ped so why not?? Morgan did NOT get a fever or rash (which is QUITE common with the MMR) but was completely off for about 12 days after the shot.. she was super hyper and just not herself.. when I talked to my friend a few weeks later she said her daughter had the SAME symptoms plus a rash all over and a fever. I'll do chickenpox as a completely different shot just to limit the chance of side effects.

Quoting Erin:

We had no issues with the MMR (actually its mandatory here for kids going to school), I'm not getting the chickenpox one and would rather she gets the virus itself for better immunity and to give her immune system a workout on a relatively harmless virus. My pediatrician when asked said the official answer is to give the vac but she wouldn't do it if it was her child.

My daughter did get the chicken pox vaccine, but I really didn't care either way. I thought it was weird that there was a vaccine now considering it's such a mild illness. I didn't have any issues with it and neither did my husband. I'd rather deal with chicken pox then something like mumps and measles and all the other things the vaccines are for.

well the problem is that you never actually know when it could wear off. And that has happened before to one of my cousins. It wore off but they didn't realize it wore off until he ended up with the chicken pox. So it all depends. I do want her to be protected but it just made me really mad to find out that even people in my family have had this happen.

Because you want her to be protected until that time too?

My son had his MMR and chicken pox both at his 15 month check-up and had no ill effects from it at all. No fever, no rash, no nothing.

my daughter had her MMR at 12 months with the second half of her flu shot. She didn't have any reactions. The only shot we've had a reaction with is the Hib. She's gotten a high fever a few days after having each of the 2 shots she's had of it.

my daughter had hers, and she was okay.. just tender and a little red..kinda on the same subject the other night on Law and Order SVU someone tried suing a women for murder because she didn't vaccinate her child and he ended up with the measles; give it to another child and she died. makes you think

I have two kids. My son has never had any type of reaction to shots. But my daughter got really bad diarrhea, redness, tenderness, fever, and she lost her appetite for three days after getting the chicken pox and rotavirus vaccine. It depends on baby. And I agree with Rachel in the long run it's much better they have the vaccinations rather than the actual disease. When I asked my daughters doctor about the chicken pox vaccine she said that by the time the child in their teens they will need a booster because it wears off. I have no idea why. So now I don't even know why I okayed the vaccine.

Yeah my daughter had redness and it was tender after her shot. She didn't seem to mind it tho, I think it looked worse than what it actaully was.

Hi! I have four children and they have all been fully vaccinated and none of them have had a reaction to them. As far as I am concerned they are very safe and in the long run your child is much better off having the vaccinations rather than the actual disease!
