Sippy Cup to Regular Cup

I know there are some moms on here who skipped the sippy cup and went to regular cup and I'd like some advice. We've given Savannah regular cups before (or a sippy with no lid) and she does pretty well except for a few things. She will tilt the cup back too far and too much liquid comes out. I know that it has to do with the way she gets liquid out of the sippy, but how do I get her not to do it? Do I just let her do it and deal with the mess until she gets the hang of it or wait until she can control it better? The other thing is that she will tilt the cup not realizing that it will pour out if she does so. How do I correct this? Also do I get rid of all the sippies and only use a regular cup or do we wean by first pulling out the no spill valves and then going to regular cups? She even tilts too much with a straw cup. I'd like to get an idea of what everyone else is doing. Thanks.

I'm glad to report that we've been on a regular cup for 2 weeks now. We fill plastic kids cups half way, make her sit down, and use both hands. So far we've only had 2 spills. We only use a sippy if we're out of if she needs something in the car. We've also switched to the no spill reuse or toss cups.

Shot glasses sounds like a good idea. I am thinking about doing the sippy switch soon...I will have to try that

We are using shot glasses. It was a suggestion we'd heard and found it works great. Our son can get his small hands around it and it is just enough, so if he does spill it is not too messy.

We use a "big boy cup" at meals and a sippy when he goes to bed. We are having a hard time weening him from the sippy at night. He has to have milk every night. We use tupperware kids cups. they are only about 6-8 oz and we olny fill it half full. I wish you luck.

Well I'm still waiting to see if I got into graduate school. I have a friend who applied for the same program and we're tired of waiting lol. Hopefully we'll get accepted soon.

lol. :) I give them to her when she's sitting on the potty at her grandmother's house sometimes. I think we're just going to have to play around and see what works best, but I thought I'd get some different ideas from other moms. By the way your youngest is getting big and he's so cute. I love that picture of the two of them :)

I was thinking of getting some dixie cups and sending some to day care with her. She does pretty well, but we've got to work on spilling lol. I'd like to start weeding out the sippy cups since she chews on them so much.

We give Justin regular cups, but only at the table. We started with putting a very small amount in at a time, and slowly went up from there. Basically, we dealt with some mess for a while. I've heard some people start with small yogurt cups.

The other thing that he needed to learn was to put the cup away from his elbow! We say 'cup check', which reminds him to move his cup above his plate. We still use sippy cups (the ones with no valve) for the car or in the playroom.
