Lol, my daughter has a compulsion right now to climb on everything, today she got mad because I would not let her climb and fall over the back of the couch. If I'd let her, she'd climb up and down the stairs all day. Is anyone else's December 2007 baby doing the same things?

Yep! He's a little dare-devil. We're working on "you must SIT on the sofa(s) or come down". If he doesn't sit, he is gently lifted to the floor (often several times, as he immediately crawls back up when he's feeling spunky) and told that if he wants to go on the couch like a big boy, he must sit like a big boy on his bum. A week ago, I sort of "let him" take a header off the couch - he was falling anyway, I just ensured he fell only hard enough to get his attention. He seems to remember that since he's been more careful. When he's getting down from anything he's crawled up on, it's always "feet first", and he's gotten good that that (beds, couches, even stairs when I'm with him). They are SO funny!

My child is always trying to scare me. Broke out his font tooth at 11 months on his brothers hot wheel car as I was getting up to take it away. He is worse than his brother ever was. He climbs. Tries to jump out of peoples arms if he doesn't want them or if you try to get him out of the bath. Wants to run into the local swimming pool and drink the water. Carry around forks, got ahold of daddies beer and i didn't know if he drank any so went ot the ER. The STAIRS are the most terrifying thing to me. I bought a Top of the Stairs Gate. It is higher than most gates and way safer because it screws to the wall and latches great. I don't let him climb the stairs without me. I have never let him go down my short stairs but my front steps outside yes.

My son John is climbing everything that could possibly be climbed. We've needed to rearrange furniture several times, work in progress. He now is trying to climb over his baby gate which we have at the top of the stairs, this is the scariest so far. Amazing how they have no fear at all!!

Yes... My son climbs on everything in the house. He is all over the kitchen chairs, the couch and stairs. Anything he can possibly climb he does. Drives me crazy.. :)

Yes. My son Toby is a little wild child. He is constantly climbing on the coffee table. He also climbs the stairs (but only when I'm with him, I have the stairs blocked off with a baby gate.) And he climbs on the couch alot.
When he is on the couch he throws all the pillows on the floor and does this.. slip and slide type motion head first off the couch! That is the move that bothers me the most.

Yes, My daughter loves to climb stairs and the couch. She dances on the couch. One time she walked right off it and fell and cried for 5 mins. But once she realized she was fine and not bleeding, she went right back up the couch. It hasn't changed, just watch they very close. Cause when I daughter fell, My friend was watching her while I put the laundry away. But kids a very hard headed and you just have to keep telling them "NO!" or "Please don't climb on the couch, you sit only." I say please and she listens to me for a little bit then I have to do it again, but she knows when I count " 1...2.." then she sits down or gets off the couch. I haven't had a problem with her climbing the stairs cause I'm always behind her. But just keep trying. Kids don't have fear lol! Mine is fear free lol!

So, I totally know how you feel. This morning, my wonderful daughter gave me the scare of my life. We just moved into a new apartment. We have one flight of stairs, that we keep a baby gate in the door. This morning, while I was getting my lunch ready for work, she figured out how to open the gate. When I came back into the living room, I could not find her. After calling out her name several times, followed by yelling her middle name (which usually gets her attention), she say's "huh". So I followed her voice and she is half way down the flight of stairs. I am 32 1/2 weeks pregnant, I haven't moved this fast in while! I ran down the stairs and grabbed her, and made her hold my hand the rest of the way down.
She loves to climb on everything and jump on the bed. She is a daredevil! My nephew, who is 9 days older isn't as brave as she is!!

hi renee,

yes, my daughter is exactly the same...no sense of fear or danger watsoever!!! my mother used 2 say 2 me "if they do it once and hurt themselves they wont try it again" but i have found that is SO not true! she climbs up in2 her buggy, stands up and jus tries 2 keep on climbing in2 thin air. i'v had to get rid of my coffee table for fear she'd fall off while dancing on it, and there are no chairs around my dinner table anymore cos she'd climb on them, up on2 the table and run around it thinking the look of dread on my face as i tried to catch her without her fallin off was hilarious!!

her latest thing is climbing on2 my bed and bouncing singing "moi moi moi" (that's boing boing boing in her language)

she's had me close 2 heart failure most days lately. isn't it gas? u'd think boys wud be more in2 climbing but obviously girls are too. i read that its a normal stage of development for around the 18 month mark.
