hi, i would like some input on my 4 year old son. he learns very well, but he is very hyper. he cannot look me in the eyes for more than 2 seconds when trying to talk to him. i encourage him to be good by telling him they will be a surprise if he does, and 5 seconds after i had said that he is jumping and running through the house. even though u can ask him the rules, that he will tell me so he does know them, he seems to not be able to obey them at all. He sits in the bad chair and within a few seconds is falling into the floor. not crying just seeing how far he can go. he will run in circles for minutes at a time to keep himself from falling asleep. at this point if he does sit still for a moment he will be asleep in no time. no matter what time he goes to sleep he will be up at 7:30 am. every morning, and we never set a time to get up. he as a baby only slept a few hours in a day and no more than 2 hours at a time, even at night. where most babies sleep most the day and night.

Have you ever checked in to sensory disorders or ADHD? There is a book called the Out of Sync Child if you like or have time to read. Otherwise there are checklists you can do online and I'm sorry but the websites escape my tired brain right now. Try the spd foundation and go from there. I'm not saying that your child isn't "normal", but if you suspect something off, listen to your gut and at least do some research on it. Check into developmental milestones to see if your son is on target or not. He sounds a lot like one of my sons who has always had trouble sleeping and blocking out noises. He has sensory problems and most likely auditory processing disorder. The definitive answer will come when he turns 7 when the full diagnostic evaluation can be performed.

I'm sorry I just have to say this is my 3yr old all over he does the same stuff I don't use a time out chair we do the corner but getting him to stand there for 30 seconds is imposable should I be concerned? Make an apt with his Dr.?

Some kids are just hyper-I was. Other times it's a medical problem. My oldest Son has medical problems. Like your Son mine is smart. He's a high functioning autistic. Their brains just don't know how to shut down. If he's not learning he's got to be moving. Basically he's a doer? Sometimes he just runs circles around me! I don't have the problem w/ him falling asleep if he sits still, but his behavior is being passed on to his little Brother.
