Weight?

My son was born Dec 25th 2007 and has always been a big boy, he's 31lbs right now. He eats very healthy and is active. All the men in my family are broad shouldered as well as his father. I'm hoping that this summer he will slim down.



So I guess I have the opposite problem.

My daughter was born Dec 20,( 10 days late) at 6lbs 1oz and we just had her weighed yesterday and she is finally 19lbs 7oz! At a year old she weighed 18lbs 6oz, so she only gained a pound in 3 months, Dr is not worried because she is so active.

mi daughter was born dec 17 at 5lb15oz and is now a wooping 12 kg last weighed in pounds was her 12month visit and she was 26lb3oz- which is really suprising to us all as im a 5ft tall pertit 23 yr old

My baby was 5lb.1oz. at birth and 17 3/4' long. She has a very petite build so I don't expect her to be big at all. She was born Dec.8, 2007 and is now 18lb.8oz. I am not worried about her weight at all since she has always followed the same % since birth. Has your baby followed the same %? As long as she is happy and healthy, then you have nothing to worry about. I love the fact that she is tiny and love it wen people say she looks too tiny to walk!

My son was born 18 Dec 07. He just at a weight check up at the end of Feb and weighed 18lbs 9 oz. We go back to the docs the 1st week of April to do another weight check. He was born at 6lbs 8oz. The doc is just doing weight checks because he has kind of stopped gaining since 9 months. He thinks its just cuz he's so active though. He suggested that I up my sons milk intake. He said if he still didn't continue to gain he wants me to try giving him pedisure to help as well. My lil guy eats me out of house and home. lol

My son is in the 5% for his weight, and 90% for height. The doctors gave him the protein tests, which T.G. came back normal. They advised me to give him pedi-sure and even get this.. milkshakes..to get his weight up. It has helped- especially since he is teething. Good luck! She looks healthy!

My son was born on the 9th of Dec 07. Right now he weighs about 21 lbs. He seems small to me but eats like a horse too and the doctor says he is perfectly healthy. I reassure myself about it by thinking that atleast he is less likley to experience childhood obesity... not that a few pounds at this stage make much of a difference, but it helps me a little sometimes :)

my son is also the same age and 20 lbs. he eats everything! my doc said as long as shes growing not to worry. dylan was 75th in height and 10th in weight..

My son was born Dec3/07 and weighed 5 pounds at birth! At his 15 month checkup he weighed 19 pounds 10 ounces so please do not worry he is healthy and very busy ! I am sure your little girl is fine!

My daughter was born on Dec 10th 2007 and she is 15 months now and weighs 20lbs 10oz.  But according to her previous points on the growth percentile chart she is growing as she should.  The nurse wasn't worried but she did suggest feeding her snacks that are high in calories because at this age they are so active and burn calories fast.

My son was born on Dec. 1, 07. His birth weight was 7 lb 9oz. At his 15 month check up he was 24lbs and 34" tall. I agree that you shouldn't be concerned.

Born 12/24/07 @ 9lbs 12", my son is now 32lbs & 34" &

has excided the 100 percentile for height n weight.......

however, I am 5'10 & my husb 6'4........

Hes Dr is not concerned as his height is perportioned to his weight.

I say, do not worry, all babys diff n special in their own right.

My baby was about the same at 13 months.  The doctors were not concerned.  She is going through a growth spurt now so her legs are getting a little longer. She didn't start walking until 13 months and I think it was because her feet were smaller.  She was born at 9lbs 5oz so she was big to start.  I think they just go through growth spurts at different times.

My 14 month old is not quite 21 pounds. He's fairly tall for his age, but very thin. He has an amazing appetite, but he's also an extremely busy little boy, wich I think contributes to his low weight.  My 9 year old nephew was also a very thin baby and stayed that way 'till he was about 7 1years old, now he's more on the chunkyer side.

I have often worried about the same thing. My daughter was born December 7, 2007 also 14 months. She has weighed 20 pounds for the last 3 months, but is as happy and healthy as can be. Did you daughter arrive early (i.e. pre-term)? I ask since my was born at 37 weeks and she only weighed 5 pounds 6 oz. I have read a couple of books which suggest it takes preemies/low birth weight babies until there a toddler (2 years old) to be on par with weight gain compared to averages.

hi my daughter was born on the 26th dec 2007, when we took her for her 1yr checkup she weighed 17pounds, and yes i was a bit concerned especially comparing her to other babies but eats alot and is very happy baby. our doctor isn't concerned about it as our baby as been just under weight from birth.

Mine is almost 26 pounds--big girl!  Maybe your baby was blessed with a great metabolism! :) My friend has a little boy who is about 18 months and weighs less than my 14 month old. Funny, huh?

My daughter was born on the 24th of December and was 9lbs 4oz. She was only 18.5lbs in a year. My Dr. said not to worry babies develop and grow at their own pace. As long as she's reaching all of the developmental milestones the Dr. said that she is not concerned. They all usually catch up to each other by age 5.

Hi Melissa! I know just how you feel. My 14-month-old daughter only weighs 19 pounds and everyone always tells me how little and skinny she is. I really started to get worried about it but her docter reassured me she is doing just fine. Plus she eats like a little piggy! She is also very active and seems completely healthy and happy. So as long as their eating and seem healthy and ok, i don't think we have anything to worry about. I guess our girls are just going to be petite!!! and just remember that EVERY baby is differant, and they all grow and progress at a much differant pace!

My boys are about 20 and 21lbs and 14 months so they are little for their age, but as long as they are happy, healthy, growing and loved then its fine! The boys Dr said as long as they grow on their own curve and stay on it, then its fine. They were born Dec 12, 07 at 4lbs 2oz and 5lbs 9oz!

your daughter is happy, healthy and eats everything, that is the most important thing, not what other peoples childrens weight is.   If the doctor isn't worried about it then I wouldn't give it anymore thought.

Thanks to everyone! She has always been petite...she was 10 days early and weighed 6lbs 1oz.  And, she has always been normal, for her size, on her growth chart!  She is VERY VERY active, which I am sure does play a role in her weight! She gets whole milk 3x a day and usally some meat for protein or egg...and yoghurt or cottage cheese, something dairy...also made with whole milk.  None of the less fat stuff for her! :)  So we will see how she is doing at her next appointment in...March? I think, I don't know I have not set it up yet! Have to remember to do that!

18 pounds does seem a little low, but I wouldn't worry too much as long as she is active and eating really well like you say. The pediatrician probably isn't worried either because she IS such a good eater, you may just have a petite little girl. The only thing I could recommend is to make sure that she is getting in her servings of proteins, such as beans, meat, chicken, cottage cheese, eggs, etc, and of course her whole milk.



You also might find that charting her height and weight at home to be helpful, so I have copied below the link to a website where you can print off a growth chart. I have used one since my son was born because he was a preemie and we had to closely monitor his weight gains, and also so that I could have one to put into his baby book.



Additionally, I did see that about half of the posts were from moms of boys (like myself) and there is a difference in their growth & therefore there are separate growth charts for boys and girls. There can sometimes be a big difference in the weight, so please don't be alarmed if you have already compared her weight to some of the boys' in the previous replies. I did look at the girls chart and Aleighanna doesn't seem to be charting, but having the chart in hand with you on your next visit may help you to express your concerns about her weight and maybe ask for some ideas to help get her weight up if it is still a concern for you at that time. I wish you the best of luck, and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions on reading the chart. (It was confusing to me until my son's pediatrician explained it to me the first time).

My son was born on Dec. 03, 2007 and is 14 months. (Born 3 weeks early) He weighs 25 lbs. probably more now, it has been almost 2 months since his last check up. I will find out next week. He is VERY tall... 95 percentile. But boys seem to be bigger from what all the other mom's are saying....so, I'm sure that she is just fine!

My daughter was born December 30, 2007 and at he 12 month appt. she weighed 20.5 pounds so she probably weighs a little over that now. As long as your baby is thriving an the doctor isn't concerned, I wouldn't be either. My daugher is in about the 40th percentile for weight. As long as your daughter is following the curve on the weight chart it is fine.

My son was at the 93 percentile for height (approx. 32") at 12 months (last check-up) and exactly at 50% for weight, just over 23 lbs so I guess that's the average weight for boys. However, if your pediatrician isn't worried, I wouldn't be either. A little girl in my son's class at daycare weighed only 14 lbs when she was 10 months old so that sounds about the same as your daughter. And she seems perfectly happy & healthy as well. She'll love being this tiny when she gets older!! :)

My son was born Dec 17, 07 and weighs 26 lbs 2 oz at 14 months old. I think 18 lbs is a good size! My son has been 25 lbs since he was 9 months old, so h'e always been a little bigger.  I think as long as she is eating good I wouldn't worry about her being smaller:)

hi...wow i could'nt imagine my daughter of almost 15mnths now weighing 18lb seems so tiny but as you said shes happy and the doctors have no concerns so aslong as shes doing everything she should i wuddnt worry hun, my little girl is 28lbs 9oz they said shes slightly bigger than the average baby in weight and height - whats the average baby? there all different im not concerned and neither are the docs so do as your doing!! xx

my daughter was born december 1st 07 and she was 20 pounds at 1 year however now at almost 15 months ppl have been commenting that shes starting to look very tiny.one she started walking her baby rolls just disapeared she is an active little girl happy and healthy.i make sure she has healthy food and snacks and lots of water(i dont allow her juice yet)and i'm not worried.i wouldnt worry until the doctor says you should and if the doctor isnt concerned then you shouldnt be.you're her mother you would know if something was wrong.baby's come in all shapes and sizes your's is just petit

Hi!

My daughter was born on 23rd December 2007 and she is also18lb. Is your little girl really active? My little girl is always on the go!!!

What was your daughters birth weight? My daughter was a low birth weight baby on was on the 0.4th centile but she has now moved up to th 2nd centile.

My health visitor did recommend that she have 5 smaller meals a day and this seems to be helping her lots.
