Weird Behavior!!! Crazy Thumbs!!!

Okay... This seemed to start after we stopped nursing. My daughter sticks her hand down my/husband's shirts and digs her thumbs into the crease of our armpit! (elbows too when she can get down the shirt) She mostly does it when she is sleepy or being snuggly. She sometimes pinches/rolls skin too! I just figured it was something like hair twirling or belly-button playing (I did that). I assumed that it was a comfort replacement because we stopped nursing(at first she was going for the nipples) and that she would like the nursing just give it up on her own but she still does it! She is starting to give up the binki but the thumb digging is still going strong. I have tried to remove her hands from my shirt and they just go right back... I have tried to give her a toy or have a lovey do the job but she is having none of that either... Anyone else have a kid that does this? Any ideas on how to break her of it? Its really annoying especially if we are out in public and she want nothing more than to shove her hand down my shirt!!!

with the nail cutting my son hates it too but if i sit him down with me and clip my nails then he willl volunterilly pass me his hands and feet to clip his nails. i hope it helps and good luck doll shopping!!!

I didn't think of a doll!!!...lol I have tried her snuggle blanket (small with a stuffed head) She doesn't really have a "lovey" Maybe I will take her out doll shopping and see if she gravitates to one or something...lol I just wish she would play with my or her hair or something else...I played with my own belly button and my sisters twirled their own hair(one of them got really wrapped up in her sleep-blue fingers) I have to keep her finger nails super short(she cries when I cut them-another issue-usually cut them when she is asleep to avoid the stress) b/c it really hurts when she starts digging in! Thanks!

I have a two year old son who was also breastfed and he did really well when we stopped but his new comfort from the breast was playing with my hair. I only breastfed for 11 months so it has been well over a year since i have stopped and he still to this day has to play with my hair if he is sitting on my lap, snuggling or laying in bed reading his books. Like you said it is her comfort replacement and i know my son hasnt kicked his habit yet. What i tried that seems to work is i had to get a really soft teddy bear for him to cuddle and be able to feel while i was holding him or laying with him in bed. You could even try getting her a life like dolly, one of the ones with soft skin and see if she would use that as a comfort to touch, or dig her thumbs into. It is worth a try and i hope what i have said helps.
