My daughter is 13 months now and just popped in her 10th tooth and has another swiftly on the way. Everyone keeps looking at me like it's abnormal when I tell them.

...she got her first tooth at 3 months.

My daughter is almost 15 months old and only has her two bottom teeth. People can't believe that she is as old as she is... I don't think the fact that she is short and doesn't have much hair and what hair she does have is almost white helps! :)

As a dental hygienist I am fully qualified to tell you the number of teeth your child has is completely normal. Yes, she did get her teeth early...but we go by a range. The average to cut a first tooth is 6 months...this only means that your child will have all of her teeth a little sooner. This also means that she will loose her baby teeth early. Most children will loose their first tooth between the ages of 6 or 7, she will probably loose her first between 5 and 6.

Quoting Jenette:

My son was born with the two bottom middle teeth in and now has four more on top which came in around six or eight months I think ... Speaking of teeth I'm having a terrible time with brushing which we've doing since he was born but now he's fighting it. We had to switch from the toothbrush to just using a wet washcloth in the bathtub to be able to brush them at all since he grabs the toothbrush and plays with it. I don't want to turn this into a power struggle or an unpleasant experience where we hold him down to brush. Any tips?

have you tryed letting him brush his own teeth tellin him big boys brush there teeth? I had the same trouble with my daughter shes now 2 and loves brushing her teeth and when shes finished now she gives me the toothbrush and lets me check shes all done, I had to play allsorts of games to get her to let me do it but she used to just bite the toothbrush as soon as i put it in her mouth but lettin her do it with the encouragement of shes a big girl brushing her teeth she thought it was a game to play. On the other hand tho my son is 13months and loves holding his own toothbrush and doing his teeth because he follows his big sister. You could even try taking him with you to brush your teeth and see if he will do the same as mommy.

My son has 12 teeth last time i checked a week ago hes like a savage animal if u put your fingers by his mouth lol

My son is 13 months and he has 4 on top and 4 on bottom. I am expecting more soon as he has been very grumpy recently.

My son had 8 by 7 1/2 moths and has two of his molars coming in. Every baby is different. I would say that there is no normal amount. My husband had a full set by 1 year.

This may not be the best tip but it works for us. We brush his teeth a little with a toddler sized toothbrush then we let him have it and he moves it all around in his mouth like he knows what he's doing. I dont' think a power struggle is a good thing either and since this will be something he needs to do for himself eventually anyway I don't think it will hurt as long as we supervise his use

I actually asked the ped. at his 12 month appt and he said that each baby is different and the teeth, as long as they are there, will come in at just the right time. My baby had 6 until last night and he cut both 1 yr. molars.

My daughter is currently working on cutting a couple of molars which will be teeth numbers 10 and 11. As far as brushing, let him play with a spare toothbrush while you brush his teeth. It won't harm anything as at this age everything goes in the mouth anyways.

My daughter is 13 months and she has 8 teeth. My daughters cousin is two weeks younger and he only has 3. I dnt think there's a way to pinpoint how many they should have!

Nothing is normal & nothing is abnormal... Every kid has his own way of getting teeth or walking, or crawling...

My daughter is 13 months now & she only has 6 teeth.

My son, when he had her age, had already all his teeth...

so don't worry, your kid is just as normal as every other kid ;)

My 13 month old only has her 2 bottom teeth so far. I'm not worried at all.....apparently when I was a baby I didn't get any teeth until I was 14 months old.
So I guess we all have our own "normal"
The later the teeth come in the better (according to my dentist)

Everyone is different. My son is 13 months old as well and he only has 6 teeth. He started walking before he got his first tooth. I don't think there is really a norm, cause I've read about when they should, since mine hadn't had any pop through.....they say that some babies are born with a tooth, that it's not unusual. So I wouldn't worry about, more she can eat with all those chompers!!!

I really have no idea what is normal but my daughter is the same age and working on number 11. My son at her age had 5, would be interesting to know what is normal.
