Letsee.... the $1 dollar store ball was probably the biggest hit of the birthday and christmas lot....

He's obsessed with buttons, so we got him a remote control that counts.... balls still make him squeal... he's into anything with wheels.... the activity table was ok, but he got bored with it within a week. The walk along popper was another of his faves.

I really had no clue what to get but my older daughter had a ball pit and it broke so I ended up getting my 1 year old one for her birthday and she loves it.

We just got our "1" year old for his birthday the fisher price activity table for like $40, he loves it !!!  Also got a fisher price desk thing from his grandparents, it sings and does abc's and has a little book on it .  He loves to sit there and play.  Good Luck !  Also the Leap frog Fridge toy, it's a barn. (avail at target)

i got my son his 1st ride along car but he doesn't like it 3weeks later it was xmas and i got him 18mth+ stuff like a big outdoor thing with a basketball hoop and a football goal and a slide all in one and he loves playing with it in my conservatory cuz it's too cold outside odviosly i have to help him alot with it but the car i got him is just getting dusty in the corner until i take him to the shops in it he likes not being in his pushchair.

Anything from the fisher-price little people line is a hit with my son (he has the farm and the zoo). He also loves his xylophone.

I second the drum suggestion, we got Maia the "Busy Bee" drum and music instrument package by "Parents", it has about 6 instruments that fit inside the drum which she LOVES!  Also, a kids beanbag chair and the sit and spin pony (she also got a TON of clothes and books).  All of these things were a great sucess.

Oh my gosh, my son got some great gifts for his 1st Birthday, but the best one I think was a Winnie the Pooh activity table. It has lots of sounds, music, buttons and a mirror. He loves playing with it and now that he is standing up & walking with assistance he loves to scoot the table around. I really think it serves several purposes, it's fun, educational and serves as a walking aid. Good luck. Shopping for little ones can be so much fun.

We struggled with the same question. We ended up getting our son a drum (a real wood & hide drum, not a plastic one) with some maracas and some other noise makers. He LOVES it. It really was a huge hit.
