My daughter is 18 months old now. I have had trouble trying to get here to eat regular table food since I first started when she was 10 months old. She refuses to try and feed herself, or pick up any food i put in front of her, and i have tried every possible kind of food, she refuses to even pick them up or try them, and if i try and feed her regular food on a spoon, she just spits it out. but then she lets me feed her the baby food...I dont get it. So at this point shes getting oatmeal mixed with fruit baby food for breakfast, a 8.5 ounce formula bottle for lunch with organic snacks, and at dinner she gets a jar of dinner baby food and a jar of a veggie...then she gets a formula bottle at bed. Im only keeping her on the formula cause i feel she is not getting enough with the baby food and i wanna make sure shes still getting proper nutrition and getting full. So basically if its not pureed, she wont eat it. any advice would really help.

I would let her sit on your lap and eat off of your plate with you. If you continue to accomodate her with baby food she will never get off of it. I gave all 3 of my children mashed up table food from the time they were 5 weeks old (much to the chagrin of my doctor). However, I feel this is the reason all of my kids will eat anything you put in front of them. The sooner you get your child used to adult food, the better, it will only get more difficult as she gets older. Remember, a child will only stay hungry as long as they allow themselves to be...if you eliminate the baby food eventually (probably pretty quickly) she will start to eat what you are eating. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice ladies, cause I really need it. Ib started giving her half formula/half cows milk bottles on Monday. So hopefully shes be completly off the formula soon.
Jodie so far she wont eat the toddler baby foods, but i still try all the time..
Brandy, the funny thing is she does randomly eat off mine and my husbands plates when we are eating, but then when i give her her own plate, she refuses it lol..maybe ill go with what you do and just let her eat off my plate for a while and see it finally shell take her own plate. thanks

Have you tried to feed her food from your plate? I started out feeding my daughter right off of my plate. Now she can't get enough of table food. After eating off our plates a few times, she started eating off her own plate. Hope this helps...good luck!

Will she eat the toddler baby food that has some bigger chunks in it? Or if you make your own baby food you could leave it a little more textured each time to get her used to foods that are not pureed. Also, my daughter loves frozen peas and corn (also good when teething), and she will always eat those - even if I can't get anything else into her.

Well Im having the same problem wit my 17 mo son. I agree with Sarah though, the formula will not give her the fat she needs like whole milk. My son is eating mashed potatoes and I leave a few soft chunks in it. So i cut string green beans in it and mix it and he eats it. It is so frustrating trying to get them toi try new things but I just keep trying. Now he will eat corn too so our list is growing. For breakfast I mixed real oatmeal wit some baby oatmeal until he was just eating the real stuff. Good luck

i do try and make it as stress free as possible for her. Ill usually just put her shows on and give her the food and let her sit there and see what she does, and i wont bother her whatsoever, and it doesnt work. I even play funny games to try and get her to eat, and nothing works..shes heading to the Drs though next week so ill see what the Dr says. and i know shell say the same thing you did about the cows milk because she does everytime we go lol

i would proberly put her onto cows milk as will proberly be better for her then formula at her age and it may fill her up more. maybe speak to your doctor or health visitor and try an make meal times less stressful and anxious im guessing ur tense and worried bout her not eating maybe lay a few diffrent foods out and not pay to much attention to weather eats them or not if she tries it then she tries it if doesnt she doesnt positive faces throughts and making meal times stress free and a happy time of the day :) x
