Hi,

does anyone have any input on making your own baby food? there are a few overpriced contraptions they sell, just wondering if it's worth it. Also, they sell the trays for the freezer that store individual servings - does anyone use these and can recommend a brand? Last, is there a good recipe book or website?

thx!

I make my own fruits and veggies (not cereals) and use a regular blender and a steamer. I steam my veggies and fruits, put them in the blender with boiled water and blend. If I need thicker, I use less water, and for thinner, more. I freeze them in a regular ice cube tray, cover with plastic wrap, and then once they're frozen I put them in freezer bags with date/label. That way I can take out as many as I need at a time, and increase as she needs more!

i use a hand held blender/plunger. i bought an expensive set of icecube trays with lid from tupperware only to find a baby store or Target sell them a fifth of the price!

for starters we are just using plan food - sometimes mixed with boiled water or breastmilk. good things to start on include apples, pears, potatoe, pumpkin, zuccinni, carrots. i have also been offering water after every meal in a sippy cup.

I have been making cereal for my baby for the past two weeks and plan on continuing with other foods. I have found that this website has been a good resource.

I am grinding my own grains for his cereal and found that a coffee grinder works by far the best for grinding the grains for cereal. The only other device that you should need is a food processor. Also you could use plain ice cube trays cover with plastic wrap for freezing your purees instead of buying those expensive trays. I hope this help. Good luck in your baby food making!!!

I know that moulee's (sorry dont know how this should be spelled) are popular because they allow you to control the texture of the food (want it finer grind it longer). Im just about to start making my baby food too so will just use the blender for the sake of economy.

Didnt know about the trays though - guess I will have to go find some!

i make my own babyfood, a regular blender works just fine and then i press it through a strainer.

i have the trays for the freezer, they are very practical, just put one in the microwawe.

as for recepies i just printed out some from the internet =), we are still in the beginner stages with eating simple purées, so i dont really need recipes yet. i just printed out a list of witch foods are good to start with.
