I like Nuby brand sippy cups, its better than a cup with a hard spout, it has a soft silicone spout that won't leak and the baby controls the flow. Babies this young still don't have the hang of actually sucking on it for liquids. My son still chews on it and plays with it, but just keep giving it every day and eventually they will get the hang of it.

My son was born on Dec 31 and he is also exclusively breastfed when he was about 4 months old I wanted to transition him to a bottle and he would not take it. I have found a great sippy cup. It is called a NUBY it has worked great with my son it is messy at first but once he got the hang of what was happening he took right to it now he is a pro he doen't need any help at all and he does not drip one drop. He will not use any other type of cup now. By the way congadulations on nursing your son I have heard that it is hard to breastffeed preemie. I think that breastfeeding is the best thing a mother can so for their child.

My daughter is just over 8 months and she refused a bottle from the start. Since I was home with her and nursed her she won't take it at all. She doesn't really take to the sippy cups but like to drink from the ones with the top off. She at times takes to the cheap one with a few packed with the tops with just the straw like. I tryed with water and juice first and she enjoyed that than started adding formula to wean her off of me. Seems to be working but doesn't drink as much as I think she should. Be patient, it will come.

I went through the same problem with my son and I found that Gerber's Nuk brand bottles and sippy cups work the best for him. This is the only brand that he will take. The nipple on these bottles simulates the nipple really well. However, he does chew on the nipple of his sippy cup some but for the most part once he realized that there was something in there that he wanted he loved the new cups.

Wishing you the best of luck. Hope this helps.

My daughter was the same way. She only had the odd bottle while with Grandma and at 3 months stopped altogether. I tried different nipples and bottle styles. I had pumped milk and had others try it. I then gave her a nuby sippy cup and my husband tried just water and ice. She would only chew and occassionaly swallow. But she loved it. So while we switched her to a regular cup, which she drinks from during meals, she has also now mastered the sippy cup, which I'll give her if were out shopping or something. Every baby is different. I found that my daughter loves to do everything by herself.

I too just give my son sips straight from a regular cup. I have to hold it, of course. He likes it because that's what he sees me and everyone else doing. Those sippy cups are too confusing. Me: just breast to cup. It'll take several months before he masters a cup, but what's the rush. Good luck!

it will take them a while to learn as they suck still while drinking but if you start feeding him every day out of a cup it will be hard for the1st few days as he has to learn but they soon click on you have to be persistant my son now drinks from a cup he is 8 1/2 months and its only 3 times a day the rest is just sips with him food. i found that i went to the $2 shop and got the clear baby cups i took the suckling lid of he drinks straight from the edge much easier because most cups have non drip plugs so the baby has to suck its much harder hope it helps alittle its how it work for us
