I was just wandering if there was any interesting labor stories? I just always love listening to peoples labor stories...maybe b/c I have a pretty good one with my last baby. I was at work on a Sunday December 7, 2008 and wasn't due until the 14th. I was going to be induced that Tuesday because I had a wreck the week before and spent the whole day in the emergency room getting checked out. I went into labor b/c of the trauma but it stopped and they sent me home. They were going to induce me b/c I was just worried about the baby even though they said she was fine. Well anyway...I went to work that Sunday (7th) and walked all up and down my work for 12 hours with no contractions...feeling fine. I got home around 7:00pm and started having very light contractions that were 4 minutes apart...so light I didn't even know if they were contraction cuz I was able to talk on the phone with no trouble they were very light. Well at 10:00pm I had a very strong one so I woke up my husband telling him we needed to go. I thought that they would be 4 minutes apart just like the light ones were....boy was I wrong. They were one right after the other...with only like 7 seconds of releif between each one. Our hospital is 45 minutes away from where we live. I had to tell my husband that if he got to a stop sign or stop light to slow down and see if anything is coming but if nothing was coming he better not stop!!! I had the urge to push when we were still in my driveway and I had to go the whole way there with the urge to push. She was right there and ready to come out...but luckily my water hadn't broke....which I still don't know how it didn't cuz she was right there!!! At one point in time I told my Husband that he had to pull over because I HAD TO PUSH!!! He told me no and that he would get me there. We stepped into the emergency room at 10:25pm (which was very fast from our house) and they took me back to my room...my husband stayed to fill out paper work. When I got to my room I changed into the gown (door wide open...I didn't care) and then my water broke ( that was right after I got to my room. I still say someone had to be watching over me cuz my water didn't break until I stepped into my room. She was right there.). They checked me and said I was going to have a baby very soon...I said how soon? and she said as soon as the doctor gets here...which she was only 2 doors down delivering another baby and she was allready on her way. She walked in the room and I pushed once (my husband wasn't in there yet)....my husband walked in right before I pushed the second time and on that second push she was out!!!! That was at 10:45pm. Yep only 20 minutes in the hospital and only 45 minutes from my first contraction!!! VERY FAST!!!! The doctor was able to stop deliverying the baby a couple rooms down, come deliver my baby and then went back and finish delivering the other baby that was how fast it was. It was very scary...I really thought my husband was going to have to deliver her!!!

my 1st labour was supposed to be induced but it was starting to happen on its own, we were already at the hospital@ 6am for our induction which was great it saved us time, my mum was with me and the plan was to phone my husband as soon as the labour started. the midwives said to expect the baby around 3 or 4 that afternoon.....i was starting to get pains round 8am so we called my husband...and waited.
i kept saying to my mum that i felt like i need to push....her reply " oh not yet u r not ready"....suprise suprise i was, my husband just arrived in time
( he had gone home and watered the plants and fed the dog!)
as my little girl arrived at 11:12am.....a total of just 3hrs and 12 mins!

number 2 was even faster!
i woke up @ 1:40am with slight upset tummy and went to the bathroom and while i was in there i started to bleed....to my suprise i then had pushing urges, we only just made it to the hospital and she was born at 2:02am....a total of 20 mins,
there was not even time to get up on the labour bed! lol

number 3 was pretty similar, i was out shopping boxing day and not long after getting home i went to the bathroom and again while i was in there started to bleed.
we arrived at the hospital @ 4:30pm, once we got there we were put in a room.
the midwives said " how long have u been having contractions?" to which i replied
"they have only just started"....she looked at me in disgust! i was waiting for her to send me home lol.
i then explained how quick my labours have been in the past.
my baby arrived at 4:45 pm
not bad....15 minutes lol

i have no idea why i have my babies so quick, i dont get the mucas show, labour pains dont seem to start till i am pushing and my waters never break!
i wouldnt want it any other way.....plus it makes for great stories

I'm so sorry she was born with pnemonia! That's hard to believe! Goodness. My little girl had jaundis *sp* and they couldn't clear all the gunk out of her lungs, so she had to go to the local Children's Hospital till dec. 30th about a week. But like you said, our babies are doing just fine now!!

Wow...These are some CRAZY stories. I can't believe she delivered her own baby. IDK if I could do that. Shoo...well here goes my wonderful story....

My baby girl was due December 19th, 2008. Well that day came and passed by as she was almost a week late. This was my first child, and I didn't know if I would have Braxton-Hicks contractions, if my water would break or what. My mom said her water never broke so I was prepared not to have mine do the same. Well, Tuesday the 23rd of December I went to the doctor to get checked and all that and I was only like 2 cm dilated at the time of the visit, the midwife didn't want me to be induced, she wanted to postpone it and let her just come into the world whenever she was ready, well I wasn't having that. So the doc came in and said on Friday the 26th if I didn't go into labor before then to come on in and be induced. Well on our way back we stopped at a restaurant and got a good meal. I guess that was my last good meal before the baby because late into the night/morning I woke up around 4:30 a.m. with what felt like cramps, I had to use the restroom and right as I got up a big gush came out, IDK what it was! I figured it was my water breaking. I peed, called my boyfriend into the room and he said yep. So I had him start timing my contractions and when they got 5 mins apart we headed to the hospital. Well when I finally got the epidural and was doing good, the nurses gave me ice chips. Yeah that made me sick and in mid labor/pushing I threw up!! Luckily, in the container for that but still. And I got admitted into the hospital at 7 a.m. and she was born at 12:52 p.m.!! It was 3 or 4 pushes for her and she came out. 8 lbs. 7.4. ounces! My little bundle of joy!! Oh and it was Christmas Eve when she was born!! What a holiday now!!

My husband and I did deliver ours! With my first birth, I was in labor for 23 hours and had a 10 lb baby and that's what I was preparing mentally for this time. Well, at 3 am I decided to quit working on Christmas projects and go to bed. At 3:15 I kept feeling strong Braxton-Hicks. Decided to try and sleep through them. Well, as they kept waking me up with strong pulling sensations. About 4 I got up to go to the bathroom and watched the clock. Yep, I was in labor. Luckily my husband woke up when I got out of the bathroom and I told him the news. He also was preparing for a long day ahead. He suggested I get into the bathtub to release some tension as we discussed who to call first. As I was talking to my mom and she heard my breathing through the contractions, she told us to call the midwife immediately. Once my husband got off the phone with her and she said she would be here within the hour, my water broke. He helped me out of the tub and I sat on the toilet. As he was running around grabbing stuff and trying to rub my back, I started pushing and she was crowning. He threw towels on the floor and I leaned over on one knee and guided our baby girl out! It was 5:20 am

We were planning a home birth, but didn't know that just the two of us were going to share such an awesome experience together! The midwife came, checked us out, my hubby cut the cord, and all was well. I think it was so much quicker for two reasons; I was experiencing strong Braxton-Hicks for two weeks prior and because my son was so big and my daughter was 8 lbs and basically just slid out!

I was five days over when i realised that I hadn't felt baby move in about 20 hours, went to the hospital and they put the monitor on me and of course did baby not start moving as soon as the monitor went on. The midwife who saw me said instead of going to the clinic the following day she would sweep my membranes there and then and hopefully that would set things in motion.
During that night was up to the toilet numerous times and with strange pains. (Being my first baby i had no idea, also had not experienced braxton hicks) At 5am went to the toilet again. Came back to bed and hubby asked if I was okay. I said I was fine just as my water broke. I couldn't move for laughing. I giggled and giggled and giggled for at least five minutes before I could move. Called the hospital and they told me to have a bath and call back in an hour. When we called back we were told to go in.
Labour seemed to progress really quickly for me. At one point I couldn't sit still and then all I wanted to do was lie on the big pillow on the floor with the lights out. People must have thought I was mad but I was comfy. By 10.30am I was fully dilated. Nobody could believe it was going so quickly.
Contractions were slowing down adn babies heart rate wasn't coming back as quickly as it should have done after a contraction so they got me back on the bed and put me on the monitor which I kept telling them was too tight but they said otherwise. My husband and trainee midwife who had been with us throughout said they could see the head and he/she(we didn't know) had a lot of dark hair. Bust then disaster struck and baby got stuck. We went from having two people with us all day to there being ten other people in the room. Forceps were brought out. It was all a bit overwhelming. Hubby was almost passing out in the corner. They asked if I wanted skin to skin and I said yes, they whipped the monitors off me and it felt as if baby whooshed out of me. They placed baby on me and I was the one to say "It's a girl, it's a Zoey" She was then whisked from us and taken to special care as she wasn't breathing properly. Turns out she was born with congenital pneumonia. So 6 days in hospital for us right before Christmas not exactly the best way but hey, she's her and healthy now thats the main thing.

I had slipped on ice on a Thursday and had a hard time sleeping because of some pain on my side. A friend of ours had slipped late in her pregnancy and tore her uterus, so I went in Friday to get checked out just in case. My OB thought I may have had gall stones and set up an ultrasound. I sent my husband off to his bowling league and drove myself to the hospital not thinking much of it - my son wasn't due for another 6 weeks! As I'm waiting, the pain just got worse and worse. I'm waiting for the results and all of the sudden I'm having contractions. They all said don't worry, we can give you meds to stop it. So they hook me up to a monitor and now I'm getting nervous. Ultrasound comes back negative. Pain is so bad now I can't get comfortable in any position. They call in a high risk OB who thinks I have appendacitis and calls in a surgeon for another opinion. Now I'm scared... surgery this late in my pregnancy? I call my husband and by the time he gets there I can barely breathe. My son's heart rate kept shooting up and the contractions were SOOO bad. The surgeons disagree and don't think it's my appendix. More waiting, the surgeons want me to have a cat scan and I'm waiting for that. Then my contractions start peaking and lasting for literally 5-10 minutes each and my son's heart rate was over 200. The OB comes back and recommends and emergency c-section and I agreed immediately without even talking to my husband. Once I thought to ask him about it we decided that was best and they told him to get ready and started taking me to the OR. Halfway there they say I've progressed to much and they will have to put me completely under, so my husband will not be allowed in. Luckily, they put the mask on me just after so I was out in about 2 1/2 seconds and didn't have much time to freak out. I was so scared and everything was happening so fast after sitting at the hospital/dr's office literally all day. As it turns out, my appendix had ruptured... the surgeon told me later that it was the worst he had seen and I was lucky to be around. My son was 6 weeks early, 4# 12oz, and absolutely perfect. He had very few problems as a result, and was right on track developmentally within 2-3 months. Lucky! And blessed.

My daughter wasn't anywhere near as exciting... A LOT slower! I started having light contractions Monday night but didn't tell anyone. They continued throughout the day Tuesday and didn't speed up until around dinner time, but still weren't bad. Gracie was a week late, so my mom was staying at our house just to be "safe". Bad weather was coming, and my hospital was about 30 minutes away so after dinner we left and headed that way. Did some shopping at babies r us around the corner from the hospital until the contractions got pretty uncomfortable then headed over. (You get really fast service in line when you they know you are on your way... like REALLY on your way!) Started "hard" labor around 10 PM and didn't have her until 9:30 the next morning. It seemed to take FOREVER from when she crowned til she was actually born (over an hour), and I remember when the nurses were taking her measurements one of them said, 'wow, she has a really big head!" and I was thinking YES! it wasn't just me, I'm not a wuss! There is a reason it hurt so much! She was 8# 8oz and now at 10 months is only in the 15th percentile!
