My 1 year old hates sitting in her highchair! It is a wooden style chair with tray and all she does is stand an try and climb out most of the time. If she is really hungry she crys and trys to climb out straight away and grab hold of my top! screams when we try to push her down into the chair -there is no harness and has never been strapped in from the start. any ideas?

I have been trying to convince my husband to get a booster or something like that instead of this highchair we use. He is hardly around at mealtimes so he dosn't really see what goes on. Thinks i just need to force her to sit down all the time. I have tried this and she refuses to eat an we have had issues with her not putting on weight when she was 6-9 months from refusing food so don't want to go down that path again. Actually started since we have used this highchair round 6months. She had a different one before that. Im thinkin it's not comfortable enough for her, maybe i will just spend some money and buy a portable one this week! Despite what my husband thinks we also visit grandparents and go to cafe's usually w/out him an have the same problem. My husband is a chef an works long hours so we hardly see him most days lately.

Mine has straps and I didn't strap him in when he was younger, but now I do EVERY time. Or else he'll climb out!

Could you get a different one? My DS sits in a booster (straps to the regular kitchen chair) and it is more compact-- has straps and even without them, he's trapped enough by the tray he probably couldn't get out anyway. Kmart has them on sale for $15 often (I think maybe even this week actually!) or else Kmart or Walmart usually sells them for $20 or so. I like not taking up space in my kitchen with the highchair anyway. And I can take it with me places when I want.

We are having that issue to with wanting to stand in her highchair. I decided tonight that the highchair is going in storage and I am getting a booster so she can sit at the table with us.

We have a booster seat as well and he loves being able to sit up at the regular table. I would suggest something like that, where you can strap her in safely.

My son hates the highchair. absolutely refuses to eat in it. It's gotten so he will not eat when he's in the highchair. I kinda gave up and feed him in a regular kitchen chair i have as he sits just fine and if there is a mess on the floor afterwards i just clean it. It may be taking the easy way out but at least he eats now.

hiya hun i had trouble with the highchair i ended up buying one of those plastic seat that you strap to the chair so scarlett can eat to our table with us or on the floor in front of the telly it turned out she didnt feel safe in the highchair as we had the same response with a few other things and worked out she was afraid of the height it comes with a tray so its still a highchair and you can sit on the floor with them which as you know babies love itts more relaxed and im finding that scarlett is now eating much better xx hope this helps give it a try xx

Do you have other options to a highchair? We have a little booster seat/highchair thing that straps onto a normal chair. We use it when we go other places. It has a little tray too, and he likes it well enough to sit in it for like an hour.
