Has any body started rice cereal yet?
My daughter was born dec 16th and now is 15lbs. The dr. said last week she can have water and cereal. Just wondering if any one has started?

My little girl was born Dec 8th. She's been on cereal for a couple of weeks. She doesn't like it plain so I add veggie or fruit to it and she likes it better.

Quoting Amanda:
My son was born December 27th and my doc also said to start cereal now after an appt. on monday (April 27th) He is 15lbs 12 oz now and a big boy. Started it tuesday with his first bottle of the day and he loves eating from a spoon. It's adorable. I too am unsure of how long to wait before starting the beginner/stage 1 jars of baby food. My doc said just cereal first but didn't tell me how long or how many times a day. Also, I mix it with an ounce of his bottle and it is nice and creamy.

I started Lucas at 3.5 months, he loves everything I have given him! rice or oat cereal, beginner veggies.........I am not starting fruits till closer to 6 months, and he has never had water (only formula/breast milk). He is never going to have juice, too much sugar!
He was 17lbs at 4 months, so he was ready!

Try tickling her bottom lip with the spoon first.

You may want to google infant water intoxication. I'm a child care center director (and mother of 4) and I've gotten a few health alerts on this topic. It's a fairly new finding so I would ask the pediatrician again. I have parents that come to me and ask me to give their infant water. I give them articles and tell them I need a physician's note. When asked this, not a single pediatrician would then agree to a note. It's worth researching and asking again.

I just started my son, born Dec, 12th 2008, on solids about a week and a half ago. He eats a jar of stage 1 baby food in the morning, one for lunch, and one for dinner along with his bottles. He is going great with it! He doesn't really like the cereal very much, but sometimes I mix a little of it, along with a little water, in with his food.

my understanding is no solids before 6 months unless baby is losing weight or massivley hungry after a feed, my daughter is 4 and half months and 14lbs 5oz and breatfeed only and is fine, personally i wouldn't be rushing to put her on rice as i don't think the recommended age is 6 months for no reason. Each to their own obviously but am shocked your doctor has advised this, in the uk every health professional seem totally against anyhting other than breast or formula milk under 6 months.

It is so amazing how some things in a community is ok and in another a deadly sin! Just comes to show: take advise, but follow your own Motherly instincts!!!!!! Every baby is unique. Enjoy this precious time with all your little ones!

My son had rice (about 1 tablespoon) in his bottle at night since 2 monmths ago, and doc said it was fine. Now I mix it with formula in a bowl, to teach him to use spoon. He's going fine. He is 4.5 months old.

My daughter was born Dec.8/08. She is strictly breastfed. I haven't started on rice cereal yet. She doesn't seem interested in our food. She's a healthy 16lbs 6oz. (2 weeks ago). I will probably wait longer to start the cereal. Maybe closer to the six month mark, unless it looks like she wants to start sooner.

Hi Rebecca my baby was born on 24 December 08 and I started her on cereal with water about 5 weeks ago but I only gave her a couple of teaspoons in the morning and at night before she went to bed now she eats a whole lot more - I made it quite watery initially so she didn't get constipated and also to help her get used to it and now she eats it much thicker without a problem - I can't seem to get the food in fast enough.

My daughter was born Dec 4th and I have not started her yet...I am hoping to wait until she's 6 months, but I will start earlier if I think she needs it. She is sleeping through the night and doing just fine on only breast milk.

my son was born Dec 6th and when he was 2 months old i started mixing rice cereal in his formula because he never seemed full and was a very fussy eater. he has done fine since then now he is up to 4oz rice cereal mixed with 6oz of formula and he eats about 5 or six times a day. I recently started trying to spoon feed him but he still prefers his cereal. I think all babies are different some are ready early and just need a little time. Just listen to your baby he/she will let you know when he/she is ready!

Hey Rebecca, my little girl was born on 31st December, and i started her on foods a of couple weeks ago, she's doing really well and got the hang of it straight away, but she also doesn't like the cereals or rice, she prefers things with a stronger taste, like some fresh fruit blended up :o).... by the way your little girl is gorgeous! xxx
