Just wondering if any of you Dec 08 Mum's are still breastfeeding? I am and was wondering how many feeds your all giving now. It's hard to get advice on BF-ing cause most Mum's seem to be bottle feeding by now. Feeling a bit lonely.

I was never able to breastfeed and my son kicked the bottle at a year. I think breastfeeding over a year old is uncessary and borderline inaproporiate. Your child is old enough to understand what body parts are and it just isn't necassary to keep breastfeeding when you can give them cows milk that is rich in vitamins and helps build strong bones.

Hi Lesley, don't be lonely. I think there are more ppl b/f then you think.

I'm still going strong and I have a 2month old too. Ethan is feeding on demand as he gets sick or is teething or whatever will feed more. He also sees his brother and wants it too. I'm going as long as there is milk for the two of them. He is also eating and drinking too. I give him milo and nesquick as he doesn't like cow's milk on it's own. He sometimes will have it and other times throw it back at me, But he seems happy having one feed some days and more others. Is still waking at night once or twice for feed though. An both boys seem to hate the bottle, even if I give them expressed milk???!!!

Hi! Don't feel lonely! I have three children, and My son, who is now 9, breastfed until he was around 16 months old, he never took a bottle. My daughter, who is four, nursed until she was 2 years old- she was addicted to it! And last but not least, my second daughter, who is 14 months old, nursed until just over a year. I let them initiate when they needed to wean. I also nursed on demand, so whenever they needed it, it was there!

Hi Lesley. I JUST stopped breast feeding my 12/08 son. I dropped any afternoon feedings and just did morning and before bed. Then when he didn't seem too concerned about the am feeding, I went to a bottle and just did before bed. The before bed feeding was the last one we dropped. I have to say that it has been a little hard on me, but my son is just fine. No one really mentioned that the change in hormones can cause some depression, but it can and did with me. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Good luck!

Hi, yea I'm still breastfeeding, I've just posted a question somewhere on here about how to wean her off. My daughter drinks from a cup or sipper but doesn't like bottles she eats 3 meals a day and she wants to be bf night times and she wakes up early mornings about 3 times she also has bf during the day as well maybe 3 times as well on top of everything else she eats & drinks, I know bf is the best but I'm now getting kind of anoying.

don't let anyone tell you what to do with your children. i can't believe people want mothers to STOP breastfeeding at 6 months or 12 months or whenever. breastfeed until they don't want it or until YOU feel it's appropriate to stop.

Hi, still bfeeding. Am just curious as I do last thing at night and then at 6 in the morning, which I do because if I do that she will go back to sleep sometimes 30min sometimes 1.5hours. Its getting hard because she is now wanting it earlier and I am not sure if I want to get up earlier and earlier for this so my plan seems to not be working. But I seem much more on a schedule than most of you.

Feel a bit wierd telling people I cant get to activities in the evening as I need to be home to give the last feed of the day, makes me feel odd. But hey am not quite ready to force my little girl to give up yet so thats the way it is going to be.

I still am, but only before naps or bed time and after a bath (it seems to warm her up).Other times during the day she doesn't seem to be interested. My production is pretty low so she has learned to stop on her own! I understand about the loneliness, with the other moms bottle feeding. How long do you plan on bf-ing? My daughter has been doing solids since 5 months & she picked up drinking out of a tippy cup about 7 months. I don't know when to start regular milk. I tried it once but she wasn't a big fan. Any advice?

Hi, I'm still breastfeeding too, usually about 3 times a day. My daughter also drinks water out of a sipper cup during the day. She seems to use the breastfeeds as a snack in between solid meals. I've started thinking that it would be nice to get my body back soon though, as she quite often tries to help herself lately!!

Don't feel lonely! There are still lots of us out here :) My daughter does not really like milk, but eats well enough. On week days I feed her in the morning and then just before bed, but on weekends she still asks every 4-5 hrs. Even if you don't have much milk it is great comfort and bonding. I'm part of a group that met at a breastfeeding support group and out of the 6 of us, three are still regular nursers.

Hi! This is so great to hear of so many still going strong! We are still breastfeeding at 14 months and all day and all night. I'd say at least every two hours with sips in between sometimes. He eats food too, but doesn't drink anything but breast milk. I'll go to at least two hopefully and then we'll see.

My New Year's Eve dd is still nursing. Usually when she wakes up, before afternoon nap, on demand when we are out and about (which is alot since she has 4 older sibs in various activities after school) then before she goes to bed for the night. The she will usually wake at least once sometimes more often to nurse. She did make it through a 15 hours trip with hubby without a nursing. She can drink water from a sippy cup but doesn't really like milk, soymilk, choc milk, vanilla milk, etc. Since she's a picky eater and is miserable during bouts of teething I have not made any plans to wean yet. She's on demand when I'm around. When I'm out she's more receptive to hubby and sibs feeding her. FYI, her sibs didn't wean until 18 -20 months. Older ds finally self weaned just before she turned 2. Would find her sleeping on the floor in front of my room in am. By then she was in a toddler bed in her brothers' room.

My daughter was Dec 6 and she just recently weaned herself. I was willing to continue until about 18months or so. But this was completely her. She went from several times a day, to twice a day, to just in the morning, to once every few days, and now she hasnt nursed in almost 2 weeks! which I guess is a good thing bcuz we are now expecting #2! But I was surprised at her doing it herself. My friend had such trouble with her son. I guess it goes to show its all at their own pace and do their own thing!

Was still nursing until about a month ago. Sadly, I got a staph infection as well as a roaring case of mastitis and had to go on some heavy duty antibiotics. Up to then, he was still nursing a couple of times in the night, first thing in the morning, and before bed. On my days off, he would occasionally choose to nurse instead of his bottle. Makes me so sad as he is my last child. He must still remember though. Yesterday, he pulled my tank top up, and wanted to. I couldn't let him, because of meds I am on. But I haven't dried up yet so it was tempting to go back to it. Don't feel alone. There are a ton of us out there still BFing. And YOU are the only one who knows what is best for you and your baby. My son's doc kept trying to get me to cut out the night feeds, but, to me, it was worth a little less sleep to know he was content and slept well each night. Good luck!

Hi Lesley! You are not alone! I am still breastfeeding my 14 month old daughter twice a day. Once before nap and once before bed time. I am slowly cutting down the time that I nurse. We're down to 3-4 min on each side. I think the main reason I still do it is b/c it helps my daughter relax before sleep (Its the only way she'll sit still!).

I do however feel a little pressure from my hubby to stop. Only b/c he wants to start putting her to bed once and a while. Which I know would be good for her to learn that its Routine that means bed time and not Mommy.

Weaning is a hard thing to do, esp when you still love the connection. So even though it's a very slow process right now, I'm still enjoying every minute!

You are not alone! I'm still breast feeding my daughter, she only nurses once or twice a day usually first thing in the morning and as soon as I get home from work. It's definately more of a comfort thing now because she has been using a cup for 6 months now. My concern now is that I am pregnant again and not sure how to shut her off before the new baby comes in October. I'm hoping she will decide on her own to be done, it breaks my heart to think she will be jealous of her sibling for that reason.

I too am still bfing my little girl born Dec 30th. She boycotted the bottle a long time ago and barely drinks cows milk from a sippy cup. She has no problem drinking water from the sippy cup or with a straw. She's also doesn't seem to eat solid food as much as her friends her age. I wish she would! I prepare stuff that gets tossed onto the floor. I nurse her 4 times a day (when asked) still and love it but at the same time I am ready for her to wean herself and eat more food.
Someone please tell me that one day she will just stop asking.

Still breastfeeding here! My son drinks out of a cup as well though. I usually nurse him before nap and before bedtime as well as if he wakes at night. I'm trying to stop doing that because even though he does go to sleep on his own, when he wakes up he REALLY wants to nurse and it's hard to get him back to sleep without it!
Keep it up, it is such a good thing you are doing for your child!

Hi everyone!
My son will be turning 14 mos. at the end of this month & I am still BFing. We are down to about 3 feedings a day when he is getting ready to go to sleep. I was told the same thing by my pediatrician as Mel, that my baby doesn't need to nurse at night & that if he awakes, he is to try & put himself back to sleep. I wanted to try & ween him b/c I have to other children & I am currently in nursing school. My son does not take a sippy cup & I was told that it was too late to try to get him to take a bottle so I don't know what to do at this point b/c I don't have anything to substitute his feedings with. He does eat big people's food for all of his meals, so anyone who can offer some advice, please help.

I'm still nursing, but only once a day (first thing in the morning). My dd probably wouldn't miss it if I stopped, and never asks to nurse throughout the day. I'm just not ready to stop completely yet. I just keep thinking what if we go through a "rough patch" of teething or being sick, it would be nice to have the option of nursing. I have been told that by nursing only once or twice a day, your milk is really concentrated, so the small amount of bm that the baby is getting is extremely rich in nutrients.
Anyway, congrats on continuing to bf, and I say keep at it!!

Hi, still breast feeding here too...only once in the morning and a quickie prior to bedtime, going to try to wean it completely this week, for me, I just think it is time and no longer a necessity, and I worry that it hurts him from getting his vitamins from the food groups etc that are required. For me, just time, my sister in law BF until 2 years though, so we are def. not alone!! Now that he is FINALLY sleeping through the night...BF'ing is much much much less!
:) I know a little part of me will miss the closeness for sure, :(

Im still BF'ing my son, and I'm about 3 months pregnant with my next. He nurses about 3 or 4 times a day--mostly at nap time and bedtime then when im sitting down looking too comfortable he'll come up and ask for "Bee-boo" (his twist on the word boobie). I originally hadn't planned on nursing past 6 months, but I love it so much now and neither of us are ready to give it up. Who knows, maybe i'll end up being a tandem nursing mom? Hardly any of my family or friends know i'm still nursing him--he's always too busy when we're around other people to and I just dont really bring it up. My mom had been encouraging me to "cut him off" since he was 6 months, sooo I don't even want to know what she'll say about me being pregnant and still nursing. Oooh well it's between me, my son, and my husband and not one of us is ready for it to stop. Good luck to all of you!

Hey Lesley! I'm still BF-ing my daughter. She was born Dec 16 08. She usually BFs at morning and afternoon naps and bedtime, and sometimes if she wakes up at like 3 or 4 in the morning. All my friends said I wouldn't want to do it more than 6 months, but I'm very happy that I've stuck with it. Mattie is just starting to actually drink regular milk with her meals and even than it's just a little bit, I guess this is my way of transitioning her in a gentle way. BF is so easy at this age that I think a lot of Mums get guilted in to giving up way to soon. I love that special time I have with him, so I cant see me stopping any time soon. ( although Id love to fit in to a few of my old dresses in the boob department!!! lol)

I have felt the same way lately. My daughter is a Christmas baby so she will be 14 months old in a couple of days and seems to have NO interest in weaning anytime soon. We gave her a sippy cup with water at 3 months old and would give her some breast milk in it too, but she mainly likes her milk right from the tap. We offer whole milk in the cup at all her meals but she does not like it at all. I BF about 2-3 times during the day, then before bed and then between 2-3 feedings throughout the night. I am exhausted! I would love to cut back on night time nursings but she just freaks out and screams if I don't let her have it. She isn't really a big eater during the day so I feel so guilty if I do not let her have her milkies at night. You are not alone!
