Colic.......HELP!

Brauers worked for me but my friends swears that Reiki was the best thing she found for her babies colic. Also could be worth tracking down a good herbalist with a reputation for working with children. They may be able to come up with something specifically for YOUR baby....Hope this helps...

Oh and I forgot to mention, the doc said (and I have learned from my profession) that colic, reflux, and gas are all very different and should not be treated the same.

Joscelyn had colic for about a month before my doc prescribed Levsin Elixir, I gave it to her the first afternoon around 2pm (an hour before she normally would freak out) and she was a new baby! It was a miracle and if I would have know about it sooner, I would have requested it! Talk to your doc and see if your child is a candidate for it!

To back-up Lauren here...
- check for milk protein/ soy intolerance
- reflux

and the book "Happiest Baby on the Block" by Dr. Harvey Karp. *phew* it helped me get the much needed night time rest/ sleep I needed... and helped to calm my baby during the day. I am not as sleep deprived anymore.

try a different formula if they are formula fed.. or take dairy and soy out of your diet if you are breastfeeding. my son and daughter both were fussy and had reflux.. they needed a special formula.. and they were soo much better!! the dairy can really upset their stomachs...

Hi Lizzie, both my son's had terrible colic, luckily infacol seemed to help a great deal however colled boiled water (warm) helped settle their tummies in the evenings and would help release some trapped wind. I also wind 3-4 times during a bottle feed to help bring up any air before it gets trapped under the milk. Aptamil have just brought a formula specifically for babies with sensitive tummies, it is slightly thicker and helps prevent intake of air when feeding I can't remember what it is called so check out their website they also have 'live chat' and a wonderful team of midwives - doctors to answer any questions you have - especially if your health visitor is not being supportive, it may also be worth speaking to your Dr if things don't improve.

Hi Lizzi, I really feel for you and your baby boy. My son, born 17th December had horrendous colic and like you (I'll bet) we tried everything going to try to help him. Infacol, Dentinox, Colief, Dr Brown bottles, you name it, we tried it. Things got so bad that we went to our doctor who referred us to a paediatrician the same day for assessment. Basically, he told us to take Ethan off everything we were giving him as none of it has been through clinical trials and we couldn't tell what was or was not working. He also assessed our feeding routine and it turned out that we were overfeeding him as we were mistaking some of his pain/fussiness signals as hunger. We started to feed him lesser amounts, more often and I have to say that it made a huge difference in our case. Your situation may be totally different but this may help. Good luck, I know it's really tough. xx

there is this stuff they can order you at your walmart pharmacy called Bioaia.  It's a probiotic.  Kinda pricey, but my son was born Dec 19th and we just slept 3 hours at a time for two nights in a row.  Still some gas but not nearly as much.  It works by putting back in the good bacteria into the stomach and intestines (one of the biggest causes of colic).  Kinda pricey.  About a dollar a day for a 30 day supply but well worth the sleep you will get!!  It is not a prescription, even though you have to get it at the pharmacy, so insurace will not pay for it.  Good luck!  I've been right  there with you!

Hi Lizzie, I too have a child with colic and have just today taken her to a chiropractor who specialises in treating babies...and believe ot or not but it has worked!! For the first time in three weeks we didnt have the usual crying/screaming spell that we normally do.
