Hello, My stubborn little 8 month old refuses anything but the breast. I am going back to work soon and am anxious about leaveing her at daycare without her being able to take milk from a bottle or cup. I have literally tried every type of cup/bottle available on the market. Any advice on how to do this?

Hi Kristina,

I cannot relate to your problem as my daughter takes the bottle quite well. I found these bottles that are called 'BreastFlow'. They are the only bottle system that uses both suction and compression, just like breastfeeding!! I have included the link for more information. GOOD LUCK!!

My son doesnt use the sippy sippy cup but i think its because its not like the nipple on the bottle so he just rubs his gums on the spout. But I was told that there are sippy sippy cups that have spouts similar to nipples and that help pull the baby off the bottle

my baby also refuses to take milk from anything but me and has the added disadvantage of being allergic to cow and goats milk, however she does take water from a bottle or a cup if it is one she can administer herself with just a little help. She also starts nursery in a month but I am just working on getting her to do solids and water during the day and all her milk feeds to happen from 6pm to 6 am, that way I know she gets enough of everything and when to expect it. she may well cry the first few times but, as she loves to copy older children i am sure she will pick up using the cup or bottle for more than water in no time at all

It took us 5 months of trying to get my DD to take a bottle.
We worked on using a newborn nipple and bottle every single day, three times a day....we started with juice, as that was appealing to her. Eventually she took it. I felt like it would never happen. She is now breastfed in the morning and night and takes a bottle of formula in the afternoon. We started her on EnfaGrow toddler Vanilla formula and eventually weaned her on to regular stuff.

Also if you'd just prefer her to go on a cup, I'd recommend trying her on a straw - we discovered my DD could drink from a straw when she grabbed my McDonalds cup from me and had a slurp of iced tea (ooooops!). After that, we bought her a cup for aged "2 plus" and she could drink from that straw no prob.

Good luck. I know the frustration you're feeling. Don't give up.

Hi Kristina I just posted the same question on breastfeeding mothers. However I have gone back to work 3 days a week for 8 hours a day and am concerned she's not drinking enough. I breast feed immediatly when we get home, at night and before daycare and express while at work. I send bottles and a sippy cup to her daycare mums with her and the Daycare mum can normally get about 150/200mls in her for the day, along with her solids. It is a struggle as my daughter hates the bottles, all bottles and sippy cups. But when she is thirsty enough she will apparently take a little at a time for my daycare mum. I have found she has started cluster feeding again when we get home but she is in good spirits and not unhappy or overly hungry. I found she absolutly puts up a fuss and cries if i try to give her a bottle but if the daycare mum does it she is not so animated she just tries to move it aropund with her tounge.
