I have an almost 17 month old boy who has decided that he does not want to sit through a diaper changing. It's come to the point where I physically have to hold him down to put the stupid thing on. Are there any tricks to getting through this phase...or what I hope is a phase?! I try and give him different toys or items he normally can't play with to occupy him, but the last couple tries didn't work out so well. He screams NOOOOOOOO and tries getting away. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

i think i might start using pull-ups too. and if they poop, you can always just tear the sides and take it off like a diaper.

My 18 month old does the same, been a pain for the last couple of months so we have moved his onto the pull ups now - much easier !!! He would always fight me and somehow get away (not good when he was covered in poo !! ). Now he just stands there and lets me get on with it because I have told him that they are 'big boy pants' and I think he loves that thought ! Not quite so easy if they poo, but as long as they stand still its ok, but if needed you can always get them to lie down just for that change, at least its not a battle every time it needs doing ! x

my son does that every now and then. if i give him something like my cell phone (keys locked of course! haha) he will sit still for an hour, so sometimes i give him that if i don't feel like fighting him. that's the only thing i've found that will work

This sounds really goofy, but it works for my boy. We drew smiley faces on all his diapers and get him intrigued by calling the diaper "Dilly Diaper" and asking in a high pitched voice if Cooper will come lay down with him, then if he can hug his butt. Just make up a goofy monologue as you go along--my 18 month old now spends his whole diaper change laying still and cracking up at mom or dad as our stories get more and more elaborate. Best of luck to you!

Oh man, my son does the same thing. Only he literally yells sometimes, cries and kicks me. He squirms and tries to get away. I don't know what to do! Sometimes singing works, other times it doesn't. Sometimes giving him a toy or object to play with works, but usually not. It's really really frustrating. If you find a solution, please share!!!!

I'm having that problem with my 17 mo old and had it with my older 3 too! They just didn't want to stop moving long enough to get their diaper changed! The other 3 got over it eventually! Keep trying to distract him. What I'll do sometimes is change him on my bed or the floor and let him get away for a little. I let him crawl away while I wrap up the old diaper & then catch him and put the new one on. Other times, I'll give him a 'zerbert' on his belly or start playing with his feet (do This little piggy). It's not a fun phase, but he'll get past it!

my son does the same=) iv just started using nappy pants..now i wouldnt go back to normal ones. he still struggles dont get me wrong but now if he stands up it makes it easier 4 me. the nappy pants seem to be stronger then pull ups ( my opinion) but give them a go n see what happens...good luck
