Help! In need of more than the usual tricks to wean from the nighttime bottle!

My daughter is 15 months old. She has been mostly weaned from the bottle since 12 months as recommended by the AAP, and has been drinking all of her milk and water and juice from the sippy cup since that time. The only exception has been her bedtime bottle where she was still getting milk every night AFTER she had brushed her teeth. I feel that it is time to start weaning this bottle as well, since I don't want her to have tooth decay from drinking milk after she brushed her teeth. She's also big enough that she sucks so hard that even the fast flow nipples can't keep up with her, and the negative pressure is causing the nipple to suck back into the bottle. We'd like to wean gently and not go cold turkey. We tried putting her milk into a sippy cup, but my daughter didn't tolerate that. It's the sucking that she wants intently. (She still uses a paci at nap time, but only nap time.) We put plain water into her bottle as the books recommended, but that didn't work. She drinks the water just fine as long as its in a bottle with a nipple. Any thoughts on how to wean from the bedtime bottle completely?

He loved it, at the dentist we are registered with they are really well geared up for young children, they recommend family appointments for check ups so we all go together and the kids get to watch me and daddy have our teeth checked then they sit on my knee and the dentist checks theirs, my daughter who is nearly 3 girl finds it quite exciting and my 15 month old just wanted to join in copy his sister (as is the case with everything!!) but the dentist only had a quick glance round anyway.

I used a bottle to cup trainer with my elder child from mother care for the dental health reasons at about 13 months. it had a soft silicone spout made out of the same material as the bottle teats but shaped like a spout of a cup. Just to say though I had my two for their 6 month dental check up the other day and my youngest still has a bed time bottle I asked him if it was damaging his teeth( he is 15 months and has nearly a full set now). He said no as long as he doesnt walk around with a bottle stuck in his mouth all day-which of course he doesnt! and that cows milk and water after they brush there teeth is fine and there is no need to make them go brush there teeth again afterwards unless you use formula which contains more acids and sugars than regular milk. He said to me if he enjoys it, its good for him and it works for you just leave it be...so I wont be weaning him off it quite yet.

I had the same prob, switch her bottle to a bigger nipple, then after a few night of having the new bottle get her to drink out of a sippy, i hate to see my child cry so i bought the nuby 3 step sippy cup and bottle it worked awsum and now hes drinking out of sippys, and for a soother i poked holes in them and he only gets his soother at night time

good luck
