I am finally having better luck with my daughter sleeping. Since she was born, she was always a good napper. Shed sleep about 2-3 hours at a time around the clock. But it was so hard getting up at 1am, 3am and 5am in the middle of the night! About a week ago she started sleeping longer stretches, about 5 hours at a time. Well the past few nights she has slept between 7 and 9 hours. Its awesome! I of course get up checking on her to make sure she is ok. She is up alot through the day now though... but thats ok cuz shes so much fun! She will be 12 weeks Monday, so it took a while, but we got there :)

Nathan born 13/12 has a bath if were home around 8, than a massage, a big fed then into bed and asleep by 9, will wake around 5am for a fed, will fall asleep half way but a nappy change wakes him up enough to finish and back in bed by 5:30 will then sleep til hubby gets up (8.30)and then have cuddles/comfort from the breast for 5 mins then back to sleep til 11am.

After his lunch fed(11) every thing is on demand and each day slightly different. (Feed lenghts and gaps, nap lenghts) until 8pm when the night routine comes in( its the only routine i think he/I need)

been trying to get him to bed earlier(7pm) then up earlier(9am) without any luck (if i start the routine earlier he just grizzles til its the right time no matter how dark or quiet we make it)

Alexis (born Dec 29) has been sleeping 10-12 hours at night for about a month and a half or so now. She takes one long 3 hour nap during the day and maybe 2 1 hour ones.

really no schedule and she eats whenever she wants, cause she is breastfed! Is this happening to anyone else?

That is what I do. My baby (born Dec. 9th) breastfeeds without a schedule! He seems so much happier than when I try to schedule it. This is #4 and I have done all of them that way.. I call it feed on demand. Nice to see that someone else does it too! I have been criticized for doing it, but my dr even said that was fine! I think it helps mine to sleep better at night as well. I cna't get him down until around 11 - 12 (midnight) and he sleeps until 6 or 7 am! Nurses and falls asleep until one fo the older ones wake him up or the noise level gets too high! Usually  3-4 hrs.

I know i already replied, but I saw this and had to again..

I think he is doing pretty good. Most babies do not sleep that long.. Mine does, but when I tell people that, they have fits and act like it is not normal! So, be greatful he does sleep a 6 hr. stretch, esp if it is the night time stretch! Although mine doesn't sleep longer than maybe 1 or 2 hrs. throughout the day.. I am just greatful that he sleeps that long during the nighttime!

Have fun with him! They grow up all too fast.
Another thing, this only lasts for a season, all too soon they will be going to school!

my boy sleeps from about 8.30pm til 7.30am most nights, has done for a month or so, he has 8oz bottles, each feed, and like most who have posted sleeps for 20/50 mins between feeds throughout the day. likes to play for the rest of the time, either with people or by himself, he is very easy going, i am very lucky. and i wouldn't want it any other way, he was born 22/12/08. and comin on a treat.

At first Zoe wouldn't sleep well at night in this bassinet we borrowed from a friend. I tried everything to get her to sleep in it, but she would always wake up. However she slept really good next to me in bed. I loved sleeping with her, but I knew that I couldn't keep it up so I bought a new bassinet that rocks back and forth. This was the answer!! For almost 2 months now (she was about 5 weeks when we got it) Zoe has been sleeping about 9 hours every night with not as much as a peep!! I love it! Im still not entirely sure why she didnt like the old bassinet, but now that she sleeps great in her new one, it was worth every penny!

Colin has been sleeping about 11 hours a night. (he is 10 weeks old) He went through a growth spurt a few weeks ago and was waking up around 3 or 4 a.m. to eat and then he would go back to sleep. He just started the 11 hour stretch though. He was sleeping about 7-8 hours would wake to eat and then back to sleep for another 3 hours. The past week its been the 11hours though. He will sleep during the day, but only little catnaps of 15-20 minutes, usually after he eats.

yes, me too!

Rian sleeps about 3-4 hours at the most, EVER! I am up twice most nights to feed him, he is EBF. He has naps in the day that can last 2.5hrs sometimes.

I practice child led parenting, which means Rian pretty much does what he likes. I've done it with all my babies. Not getting much sleep, but oh well, the joys of motherhood. It gets better.

All babies are different, as you can see! My baby girl is usually asleep by 10pm, and will sleep through the night. She'll usually wake around 6, when she's HUNGRY again! Then she'll sleep a couple more hours, and NOT sleep for most of the day. She'll take naps, but usually no longer then half hour or so!! yes, we're very lucky! :)

My daughter Isobel sleeps 12 hours straight at night and then cat naps throughout the day, I am very lucky that she is such a sleepy head, and she is so pleasant and smiley when she is awake.   The down side is that the back of her head is really flat because she is always flat on her back sleeping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

i asked my pediatrician a while back about how long i should let my son sleep at night. and he told me not to disturb him that as long as he was getting in his aprox 8 feedings during the day that it was fine to just let him sleep there was no reason to wake him. i would be inclined to ask your ped. again cause i don't see why they can't sleep for 6 hours especially at 3 months i can see the first week or if they had jaundice but by now they have their own routine and will let you know what they need.

my ped still asked if she was eating during the night like she should still be getting up every 3 to 4 hours shes 2 1/2 months now and for about 2 weeks now shes been sleeping through the night i think they do get on their own routine some take longer then others but soon get there

Hi again everyone! I forgot to add earlier that after implementing the necessary steps sleep and settle gave me, Meah (Dec. 12) not only sleeps all night but she also has quite good sleeps during the day now. She was starting (at about 7wks) to have very unsettled days - not sleeping well only having 1/2hr or 45min sleeps here and there. So now, she will be up for 1-2 hours and then sleep for 2-3 hours in a cycle all day until her last feed at 8/9pm at night. It made my days a lot easier too because I wasn't having to entertain Meah all day and try to keep her happy. Now I know she was constantly whingy because she was tired all the time. So good day sleeps definately equal great night sleeps!!

Ethan (dec 16) doesn't really sleep too much during the day anymore, maybe an hour here and there but mainly only little power naps after a feed. At night he goes down anywhere between 8:30 - 10:00pm and sleeps for around 6 hours then in 2-3 hour intervals thereafter.

To all mums that are having baby sleeping problems..please check out

www.sleepandsettle.com.au

I did and was able to have a home consultation (as mentioned in my last post) because the nurse is in my area, but if you aren't able to have a home consultation, she also does phone consultations and you can buy her notes from the website to! I have the notes which are a real help...believe me, you'll appreciate everything she teaches!

YES! My Meah goes down for the night anytime between 8.30pm-9.30pm and sleep till 6.30am and she's just 12wks today.

I had a 'karitane' nurse come and spend a few hours with me when Meah was 9wks and at that time Meah was doing the same thing. The nurse told me one of the biggest contributors to that is that a baby needs a certain quota of milk within a 24hr period so if they don't get most of it during the day they will want it during the night. So, if Meah wanted to have a late afternoon sleep that was fine but I had to get her up by 8pm and try to give her another feed and then put her down. And it worked..after about a week of that (and a few other things I had to implement) Meah now sleeps through every night.

Hope that's helpful! :)

Mine was born 12-20 and she goes down at around 9 and sleeps until between 3:30 and 5:30 then goes back to sleep until between 8 and 9:30. She will sometimes take cat naps, once in awhile she'll sleep for 1-2 hours, but normally it is about 30-45 minutes. She'll start to doze off in her swing and then before she goes to sleep, I move her to her bassinet and often will sleep during our walk in the park. I tried to get her on a rough schedule, but we were both miserable. She is much happier now that I gave that up.

This is exactly what my daughter does..Goes down around 9, then sleeps till anywhere between 4 and 5am, then back out till around 8...then ill get one 30-45 min nap during the day, and the rest all 20 min cat naps.  Im so thankful though she sleeps so well at night now..The first 4 weeks she slept 1-2 hours tops in a row..It was awful lol

My baby boy is breast fed, usually sleeps 3 hour stints on a bad night tho he will wake every 2 hrs or even less, he is 10 weeks old.  A few nights recently tho he has slept from 6pm to midnight, feeding then to 4am, feed (nappy change) then 6.30-7. its like heaven.  Im praying this is the start of him sleeping through the night but it hasnt been completely regular yet...

Day naps are alot harder, he will only nap for 45-1hr at a time, maybe 3 through the day IF im lucky (work hard to help him to sleep) some days he only naps once and is sooo over tired by the end of the day.

He uses breast for comfort alot (which i dont mind) I find it relaxes him to help him to sleep, darken room and mozart helps us too (even during the day). Night sleep has a very regular routien of bath feed massage relax (cuddles patting and shhh'ing) then by the time I get him in the dark room he can barley fight it and will usually be in a deep sleep within 30mins.

Teaching a baby to sleep is the hardest thing in the world.  Its not like you can say at 2 am. no mate time to go back to sleep, praying to the god of patience is all i can do!
