I just recently found out that my baby is ready for solid foods. I give him Graduates .. anything really that I can he can nibble on (and he has eaten it all.) But he does not want to drink all this bottles anymore and he absolutely loved them. Is this because he is too full .. he eats properly I am not concerned with that. Does anyone else rely on a few snacks?

I use th puffs and the finger foods fro Graduates and give him about 20 in one sitting just so he will know that they are snacks and not the meal or they will eat them all lol...I've tasted them and they are good so i know he likes them.

I'm only doing 3 8oz sippy cups of formula a day now. Cereal in the morning, jar of baby food for lunch and a jar for dinner and plenty of puffs, fruit and bites of whatever I'm eating all day.

My son LOVES those Graduates puffs. I looked on the back of the canister, and the serving size, believe it or not, is 90!!! I give Luke maybe a dozen, a couple at a time, but I give them to him mostly for a little variety and for practice with finger foods. I also do the same with very soft, small pieces of fruits. Luke's bottle consumption has gone down too, now that he's eating more solids. I do like someone else suggested, give either the food or bottle first, then offer the other in a little bit. I offer the bottle first, mostly because our ped. said that formula is still the most important part of his diet nutrient-wise right now. Have you tried a sippy cup with him? Maybe he's ready to "outgrow" his bottles and move on to a "big kid" cup?

i read somewhere that a baby gets a huge part of their nutrition from snacks...

hi lisa. its natural for ur baby to drink less when he starts solids. 6 months is the recommended age to start cereals n purees. aryan usually has 600-800ml of milk a day with 2 vegetable meals n about 6 spoonsof cereals with his milk. they say to give as much as ur baby demands there's no point in giving 'recommended' amounts by force. i give aryan 'farleys' rusks to nibble on cos they're supposed to be teething biscuits as well. it keeps him occupied tho he makes a mess but he loves his farleys

we have exactly the same routine as ariane. i always give my son his bottle first but since he has three solids a day he has started cutting his bottles back by himself. i just think you go with what your child tells you but always offer the milk first as it is still their main source of goodness. they will eat and drink as much as they need to. :)

my bub loves her solids but doesnt want her bottle straight after. I usually wait 30min to and hour and then offer her the bottle and she takes it with a little more enthusiasm.

I have a schedule that we run to that suits us both (for now!)

7 am - b/feed

8am - breakfast

11 am - b/feed

12 pm - lunch

3 pm - b/feed

5.20 pm dinner

6.30 b/feed

7 pm bed

My son knows when it's time for his milk or lunch. I think that helps the situation. I have not started introducing snacks yet.

Babies are generally more full when they start solids so they reduce their feeding time. Sometimes baby wean themselves which is what your baby might be doing. It might be worthwhile speaking to your dr about this. I am not sure on how much milk they still require at this age.

I have read that if you are worried about your child cutting down their milk feeds, consider adding it into their food.

All the best :)

I rely on snacks as well. Jayme just seems like she is ALWAYS hungry she gets cereal at breakfast as well as fruit, fruit at lunch, she'll eat cheerios and any other fruit we'll let her eat and then a full dinner. I still breastfeed her and I also give her formula but I rely on snacks to get her through from lunch to dinner with only two feeds in between! Plus it keeps her busy and happy!
