My Daughter is 3 1/2, she will be 4 on December 12th. She is unable to be in Pre-k right now because she will not be 4 by September 1st . She will have a difficult time getting into Kindergarten when everyone else is 5, she will be 6. Is this normal for her to be 6 years old in Kindergarten? I can't put her into early admission because her birthday will have to fall in between September 2- October something..either way she does not fall into that category. What can I do? December mom's help me out!

My daughter was born December 1, and we live in Michigan. December 1 (my daughter's birthday) is the current cut-off date for entering kindergarten. So, my daughter would be able to go to Kindergarden when she is 4 (and she would turn 5 in Dec of that school year). I, personally, am not in favor of this. I am planning on keeping her in preschool and holding her back until she is 5 (so she would turn 6 during her kindergarden school year).

It's all about knowing your child. I know my daughter and I know that she would not be ready to handle kindergarden at 4. My birthday is Nov 21 and I had to be held back a year as well and it did wonders for me.

I was a teacher before my daughter was born (I quit to be a stay at home mom), so I know some of what to look for in my daughter's behavior.

This is totally normal and better for her. Studies are finding that the older a child is the better they will do in school. California is moving back their admission dates, next year the child will have to be 5 before August 1st to enroll in Kindergarten. Our preschool has 2 age groups the 3-4's class which most kids are in for 2 years and then the pre-k class that is only for the kids who will be old enough to start kindergarten the following year.

Head Start in the community is a great program for children between the ages of 3-5. My son is enrolled and gets more excited about learning each day. Be sure to contact your local county office to request information about the qualification requirements. ~Blessings~

This is normal my daughter will also turn 6 in Kindergarten this can be a good thing as the younger kids tend to struggle because emotionally and socially they are not ready yet don't worry about her age just encourage her to learn.
