My son is 2 1/2 months old. He eats anywhere from 5 - 6 ounces each time he eats which is around 3 hours apart. I want to feed him more less often - what is everyone elses feeding schedule like?

Wow - Im starting to think my son is a piglet!! He always spits up after eating, but will in no way eat less than 6 ounces. I was told by our ped. to feed him until he is full. We are moving to 8 ounces soon - and still every 3 - 4 hours!

my son is up to 6 1/2-7 oz as well at every 3 hrs during the day and then will sleep for about 5-7 hrs at night on that last feeding of 7 ozs.

i also have a "spitter" its annoying to feed him and then see him spit it up, but the dr's say some kids are spitters?!?!?!?!

any advice on the spitting up, besides keping him upright and less active for like 30 mins (which means holding him) after he eats???

am i giving him too much???? he eats it no problem and burps like every ounce (which he ates--such a gulper!)

thanks

My daughter is 13 weeks old and she has 5 ounces every four hours during the day, i feed her at 8pm and then she sleeps until 5am, she then has a feed and then sleeps until about 7am. My first son used to feed 4-5 onces every 2-3 hours so i guess every baby is just different, i changed his milk to SMA white which helped a bit!! Feed on demand thats the health visitor used to tell me!!

I heard a story that a woman who was "watering down" her babies formula, her baby eventually died from it. You should never put your baby on a diet (cutting calories). Your baby will not eat what he doesn't want. Every baby is different and eats different amounts. Let your baby eat what he/she wants, if he/she gets a little chubby who cares, as long as he is healthy thats all that matters.

I talked to my sons peditrician about his eating, because at that age he was eating 8oz every 3 hours. he said that is fine but try to stretch it to 4 hours. but he grew so fast so a relative told me that i should water his milk down a little so he doesnt get so many calories. people have also told me that if you put cereal in his bottle he wont eat as much and also less often. well that didnt work for him! i've heard it's worked for others.

You dont want to feed your child more less often. That will cause major digestive problems and could become a long term problem unlike the short term baby years. You may even make him so full he gets sick and then will want to eat sooner. Think about how small a babies stomach is, the size of the little one's fist. You are already putting six ounces in that tiny place.

My daughter is breastfed and she eats 4ounces every 3-4 hours and sleeps for 10 hours at night without a single feeding in the night time. Sometimes she will wake up and eat for a half hour and an hour or so later want to eat again, so I let her eat again. It isnt always condusive to my daily routine but to me her well being is more important.

I let my son eat when he is hungry. I don't force feed him anything, if I don't feed him the 6 ounces he will scream until I give him more. My son was almost 9 pounds when he was born and was 13 pounds about 3 weeks ago, he isn't a little baby, he isn't at all chubby. He eats what he wants, if he doesn't eat all of it, the he doesn't eat it. For about a month an a half now he has been sleeping for 9 hours at night with out waking at all. I usually have to wake him up when I need to get him ready to go to his sitters house. I tell the doctor how much I feed him and she hasn't told me to cut back or anything. My son tells me what he needs.

Wow Elizabeth... I would LOVE it if my twins slept for 10 hours at night without a single feed at night!!! How do you do it???

My son has been eating 6 ounces for maybe a month and a half now. And he eats about every 3 hours 4 if he takes a nap.  I have also been putting rice cereal in his formula for about 3 weeks. He only eats what he is hungry for. He has acid reflux so alot of it does come back up, not always but most of the time. Babies will only eat as much as they need. If he wants more he will eat more.

My daughter drinks about 4oz every few hours. I had started making up 6oz bottles cuz sometimes she was more hungry. But then she'd waste a few ounces if she wasnt as hungry at one point LOL So if she is stilll sucking away, I will get her more. Every baby is different, and they eat more or less somedays, just like us.

Our twin daughters are 8 weeks old. One twin is B-Fed and the other is trying. We are feeding them 5oz every 3 hours. They get up only once in the night. When my son was a baby he slept through the night at 4 months as they do not really need the night feed if they are feeding well during the day.

My daughter is 2 months today and she has been on formula since 6 days old. I currently feed her anywhere from 4-6 ounces every 3-4 hours. At night she goes down between 8:30-9:30 p.m. and wakes up anywhere between 4:00-6:00 a.m. so during the day she sometimes needs a little more since she sleeps for longer periods at night. Here is a sample of my schedule: went down at 8:30 last night after 5.5 ounces of warm formula, woke up at 3:45 a.m. and had 4 ounces went back down until 8:00 a.m., ate 4 ounces at 8:00 a.m., had 2.5 more ounces at 9:30 a.m. went down for a nap at 10 a.m. & still sleeping. She'll probably sleep til between 1:00-1:30 p.m. & eat around 4-5 ounces the rest of the day every 3 hours. Sometimes she needs a little "snack" in between feedings if she's not totally satisfied which is around 1-2.5 ounces. Many times in the mornings she can eat up to 6-7 ounces for that first feeding. Or she does what she did today and has 4 oz. when she wakes then needs 1-2.5 oz. an hour later. I know all babies are different ... I would say you can try to feed him a little more at each feeding; just be careful b/c you don't want him to spit it all up if he gets too full. Also, I don't know if you use a binky or not but I sometimes try to encourage an eating schedule by holding her off a little longer so we can get on a more set eating schedule. I'm not a huge believer of that b/c she's still little yet and needs her nourishment so I don't do that often but I know some people do it that way. Hoep this helps!

Just wondering... do you waste a lot of formula doing this? How do you know how much to give each feeding??

my daughter is 8 wks today.  she eats 4 1/2 to 5 oz every 4  during the day and sometimes one 6 hour break at night.  she eats around 11pm and gets up to eat again between 4 and 5:30.  then she starts every 4 hours again. sometimes she'll wait 5 hours during the day, but usually only if we go somewhere and she falls asleep in the carseat. then she tends to sleep a bit more.

My son eats just like yours. He's 1 month and 20 days old. He will eat no less than 5oz. If he doesn't get it, he won't go back to sleep and will cry until he gets it. He tends to eat every 2-5 hours.

Also, he used to spit up ALL the time. Most of the time, it wasn't just a normal spit up either, he would pretty much bring up the entire bottle almost. My dr told me to make sure he was getting burped well during the feeding, which helped a little. She also told me to try Alimentum. Which I only just started on the 17th. But it's been almost 3 days and he hasn't spit up or vomited like he had been. He also had been spitting up a lot when I would lay him down to sleep, he'd vomit and scream to get my attention and he'd have got it everywhere. If you're having trouble with spit up try switching formulas. I'm using Similac Alimentum. It's expensive, but it seems to be working for me at least! He still spits up small amounts, especially if I don't burp him every half oz. But nothing like before.

Your son isn't a piglet! My daughter does the same. She does anywhere from 5-7 oz every 3-4 hrs. However, every once in awhile she'll do 2-3 oz every 1-2 hrs when she's having an off day.

I feed my 2 month old every 3 hours during the day and at night he goes about 5 hours between feedings (I feed him at 10 p.m. and then whenever he wakes in the night, which is usually about 3 or 3:30 a.m.) He wakes around 8 and then we start the three hour cycles for the day again. He's breastfed and is taking about 4 oz each feeding.

My baby is 11 weeks old today. She has a pretty large appetite. She is now taking 7 ounces every 4 hours. Ususally her feedings are 8am, noon, 4pm, 8pm and about 4 oz around 11. She sleeps through the night. When she started wanting more sooner that 4 hours, I moved her up an oz.

I assume you are formula feeding? Probably the longest you're going to get out of him for now is 4 hours. My first son didn't start formula until he was 4 1/2 months old and fed every 3-4 hours until he was on solids 3 times a day. Then it was every 5 hours. I would be careful trying to space out day time feedings because it could make him wake at night more often. If they don't get enough during the day, they will wake at night to compensate. I would be scared to space it out to far, but I like my sleep! ;)
