My Daughter is now 2 months old and when i put her to bed on her back she will wake up and start crying it takes her awhile to fall asleep again. I have started letting her sleep on her tummy as she sleeps alot better will go to sleep right away. I know they say to not let them sleep on their tummy but years ago it was dont let them sleep on there back.. 4 years ago my sister had twins she was told to keep them on their side.. Does anyone else have any opionions on how they sleep? Anyone else let their baby sleep on their tummy?

HI Katelyn, The reason you should make her sleep on her back is for SIDS (they say usually for their first year of life, but when they are ready usually around 5-6 months they start to sleep on their tummies). If a baby sleeps on their back and they spit up, human nature for them is to push their heads to the side. If they sleep on their tummies then they can actually choke on their own spit up. I have a son who is 2 and my newborn is 11 weeks old and I have put them both on their backs just for safety reasons. Have you tried swaddling her...that usually works.

Swaddling is key. Regular blankets just don't seem to last. I prefer Kiddopatamus brand (the one w/ velcro) over the miracle blanket, but that's my opinion.

My Yasmin has slept in her car seat from her 2nd week. Like yours, she just doesn't like to be flat on her back. the car seat is awesome and is NOT frowned upon by doctors. Yasmin also half the time wakes up when we lay her in it. but the beauty of it is it rocks back and forth, so we leave her in and rock her, and she's fast asleep and we don't need to move her!!

good luck!

My Jonah doesn't like to sleep on his back either, unless at an angle like the bouncy seat or swing. We got a sleep positioner to help him stay on his side and not roll to the tummy, he gets his best sleep swaddled and cuddled by the positioner.

My daugter is 11 weeks and during the day also wakes up as soon as I put her down. Usually I would just pick her up, but lately I pat her bum for 5 min till she falls asleep again. Paed told me if you want her to sleep on her tummy, you should be awake, never leave her unattended. Alternatively you could get a breathing monitor if you can afford, alarm will sound as soos as she stops breathing.

Thanks for you opinon I know the reason is because of SIDS. We have swaddled(just like a straight jacket) her but she is to the point she pulls the blanket off/ Wiggles free, and she goes to sleep with a Aqua sounds DVD and a paci. Once she is asleep she sleeps all night(has since 4 weeks) just at times it takes her a bit to fall asleep. I rock her till she is almost asleep in my arms (as i read to get them to where they are dosing off but not asleep because they need to learn to fall asleep on their own) but as soon as i lay her down she wakes right back up. We have tried to get her to sleep on her back lately and she is starting to roll and ends up on her tummy.

Because of SIDS being the most common in 2-4 month olds I would think twice about putting her to sleep on her tummy. My biggest reccommendation is to swaddle her really good. I use the miracle blanket, it is kinda like a baby straight jacket, but it works wonders. My 11 week old sleeps through the night, although that just might be plain luck. When we started swaddling her snuggly (so her little hands can't get out) she slept longer. We also have baby einstein instrumental music playing whenever we put her down, the entire time she is asleep. They like the noise, remember all of these things comfort them.

One more thing... The 5 S's (happiest baby on the block - book)

Swaddle

Side or stomache sleeping (maybe you could watch her fall asleep on her tummy then flip her over?

Shhh (White noise, vacuum, music)

Swinging (motion)

Sucking (finger, paci etc).
