My son has about 6 words that he uses sparatically and not always in the proper context and we have been on the speech therapy waiting list for about 10 months now. My son was born tongue tied and it was only discovered around 16 months old and he had surgery at 19 months to release the tongue. I was hopeful that it would encourage speech but here we are 10 months later and not really the progress I was hoping for. So I was wondering if any other moms were dealing with similar situations and if so should I get off the OHIP list for speech and language and go privately...and if so whats the cost involved.
Thanks

not sure where you live but look in to the birth to 3(or 5) program I have never herd a child not getting help they are need not for almost a year. I live in Washington state and my son was dx with autism adha and a speach delay. I will be moving to Connecticut in the next few weeks and I have already talked to the birth to 3 program there he will be starting treatment as soon as we move .We will have to cover some cost not sure of the amout but only because this year we will make over $45000s. Anything less then that the cost is free. also most states have a pre k class for kids with special need a child at 3 years old can be tested for delays and get help right though the school system. good luck and hope I was able to help some

my son is also working with a speech therapist. My son's tongue was also tied down and now he has a hearing loss so make sure to has ur son's hearing checked. My son passed a year ago and then last month he failed 3 and now we have to go in Aug. to have an ABR hearing test done to see if he needs hearing aids. So try to hold out on the speech therapist they really help. We've also started to do some sign language to..good luck best wishes
