My son just started asking "why" about everything yesterday. I knew this phase would come at some point, but I figured I would be able to provide him with the answers to satisfy him. Instead we go in circles over silly things, and he will not accept, "I don't know" as an answer! Is anyone else's 3 year old in this phase? Has anyone's child outgrown it yet? What were your best answers to ridiculous "whys?"
A quick example - we saw a photo of scuba divers.
My son asked "why are they swimming?"
Me: "Because they want to see the fish better"
Him: "Why do they want to see the fish better?"
Me: "Because they're on vacation."
Him: "Why are they on vacation?"
You get the point... When I tell him, "I don't know" or try to end the conversation some other way, he repeats his question again and again. I don't want to stifle his inquiries, because I'm sure this is an important phase where he tries to understand the world around him and how things work. However, at times, I'm about to pull out my hair! =) Any suggestions?
