Thumb sucking

My (almost) 15 month old son never took to a dummy and has sucked his thumb since I can remember. This is totally AOK by me, he sleeps beautifully, eats well, nothing out of the ordinary however; Ive noticed lately his thumb has started callousing, even skin taken off. My mum told me he must be using his teethies, as they are coming through in force! It doesnt bother him at all, he shows no signs of pain or discomfort, in fact the the total opposite. Have mums to other thumb suckers noticed this? and should I be concerned or show our doctor? Thankyou super mums :)

My daughter is also a thumb sucker (only her left thumb) and she did get a rough callus spot on her thumb. She had it for a little while, but it has improved. She was teething when she got the rough spot, so I wouldn't be too concerned unless it causes him pain or becomes infected.

My 17 month old had a dummy until he found his thumb and to this day still sucks his thumb. I'm also ok with it as I was a thumb sucker. I don't see anything happening to his thumb yet but after time the thumb does change. My thumb was flattened for years and still dont look the same as the other one but it's not noticeable. But my friends little boy has his thumb full of calluses and skin peeling off and she got this "thumb away" stuff to put on his thumb and so far he stopped sucking his thumb so it'll heal . You should speak to his dr and they'll probably give you some cream to keep on the thumb. Hopefully something works.

My daughter has sucked her thumb for as long as I can remember as well! She wouldn't take a soother to save anyone's life! I also am okay with it. I have not noticed any difference in the thumb she sucks, but it sounds right that he's probably just using his teeth. If it starts to look really raw you could talk to your doctor, but I wouldn't worry if he doesn't seem to be in any pain:o) Good luck!
