Hi, my daughter was born Christmas Eve, and my Husband & I have decided to have her birthday on her actual day and celebrate with family, and on the 15th May, which is her name day (Romanian custom) celebrate with her friends and we will call this Party Day.. (As we live in NZ, and Summer holidays for children at this time of year, all her friends will be off school and I don't want her missing out)

my son was born xmas eve @ 12:24 am everyone tells me that its gonna suck for him but i plan on celebrating is b day ahead of time, i plan on havng his b-day party either the 1st or 2nd week of Dec.
I think it's pretty cool myself but everyone is entitled to their opion
My husband's birthday is on the 30th and he has always hated it. At school age all his friends were away on holiday with their families so they could never come to his parties. All his big birthdays were celebrated months later, he had his 21st in February, his 40th in May. Some relatives used to send one gift for Christmas and Birthday which as a child is just unfair. So please make the day special for your son, you could always celebate his "half birthday" in July just to spread things out.

Liam will be 1 on Christmas day . . . my plans are to have birthday cake and a birthday present for him on his birthday and then have a party sometime in January. When he is old enough to understand all of this, I will let him decide when he wants to have his birthday party, either in January or around his half birthday in June.
When ever he decides to celebrate his birthday, he will get most of his gifts from us, but there will always be something on his actual birthday. I think that it is one of those things that will work itself out as time goes on, depending on the dynamics of the family and the personality of the child!

My son will be 1 on Christmas Day - and oh boy I find this a bit daunting! I will be celebrating his Birthday and Christmas on the same day. I was thinking that when he is older if he wants he can choose when he would like to have a birthday party - and still have a Birthday cake and Birthday present from his mum and dad on his actual birthday.
I know that if he wants to have a party with his friends he will need to do this on a different day - I can't see how his friends would be able to come to a party on Christmas Day.
I not quite sure how i will define the day - Birthday and Christmas -- I thought maybe i would decorate one lounge area for his Birthday and the other for Christmas. I like Brooke's idea of balloons in the children's bedrooms.
Don't really know what to do but I know that there will always be presents for Birthday and Christmas - no combined!
Love to hear of any other ideas from mums.

My daughter will be 1 on christmas and we have decided to celebrate her birthday with friends and family the first weekend in dec and then on christmas day spending it at home. taking the afternoon to celebrate her birthday and having nothing to do with christmas during that time.
I was also told if u wrap presents in birthday wrapping and a actually birthday cake with no xmas stuff on it the kids will enjoy there birthday!

My little Oliver was born Christmas Eve so this year will also be his first birthday :) not sure how we're handling the celebrating yet though...my family lives several hours away so we usually celebrate Christmas with them on Christmas Eve and do Christmas at home. I don't want Oliver to grow up feeling shorted so there have been discussions about having a party (at least when he's older) in June so that he'll be able to have friends over and make it easier on family and stuff. On his actual birthday I will always be sure to give him a few gifts and a special cake and do balloons and things to make him feel special. It will be interesting to see how it plays out as the years go by.

Well Natalie was born New Years Eve, BUT...my older son was born Christmas Day. He will be 15 this year.
I always fill all my kids rooms with balloons the day of their birthday ever since their first birthday..just to make it extra special. I also set out when babies or hide when bigger a few smaller presents from mom and dad(usually around 100 bucks worth). Then give them their big gift during their party. I also do a small cake and sing happy birthday on their actual day. This makes their actually birthday special.
I have always done my older sons birthday either a couple weeks after or a couple weeks before his actual birthday of Christmas day, just so its easier on family and friends. For Christmas all 6 of my kids get the same amount of presents..so for their birthday it is always extra presents, they never get shorted.
