I am buying the digital scrapbooking software from creative memories and I am wondering if anyone has tried making money taking others digital pictures into pages and books for them?

I know that the kits that come with the program I use (iscrapbook) don't allow me to produce book for others and make a profit. I would think that the other programs like CM would have some copyright type issues even if you give credit to the designers? Am I wrong?

I'm doing an album for my mother in law, she wants to pay me above and beyond the digital costs/book price, but I refuse. I imagine you could do something like that under the table very easily.

Here is a fun way to take you digital pics, and send them on a customized card! You don't have to do anything but upload the pic and create your customized greeting card, click the send button and the customized card is printed, stuffed, stamped and mailed for you! You can even pic a gift to send with you card all from your pc!

This is so cool! Check it out and try for free at http://www.soclori.com/

Have fun and send someone you love a smile today!

To defend what she is saying about Heritage Makers being based on stories is Heritage makers has digital story maps and templates that will help you wright the person's story. We offer the scanning service so that we can scan old photos and then go through a interview process and then pick a template just perfect for the author.

Hi! I personally have tried to make money by digiscrapping for others, but have run into a few problems:
1) a lot of people dont even know what digiscrapping is!
2) I was told a few times that it was too expensive (even tho I thought my prices were extremely reasonable, I believe in being affordable!)
3) any form of memory recording is such a personal process
4) I found it very time consuming, and also found that I would need to have a shopfront/party plan where I could personally explain the process in detail as so many ppl still do not know about digscrapping!!!!!
5) I thought I was pretty good at scrapping ( I have been published a couple of times in magazines) but the quality of my work made people think it would be too expensive.

Aaaargh!!!

But I do not mean to be discouraging - you may have a better experience than me! I have approached my children's school about sales that also donate money to the school - maybe it helps that I am on the P&C lol - but they were receptive. Anyway, good luck to you, I hope you are successful!!!

I would have to advocate for Photoshop Elements 7. You can pick it up for about 80 bucks and it grows with you. I've been using it for a long time now and I just adore it. There are SO many resources out there for free/cheap scrapbooking supplies (I should know - I have over 100GB of 'digiscrapping' material) plus free brushes (which are just like stamping - which I love!), style templates, actions, shapes, and so much more. There are also a TON of free tutorials for how to get the most professional looking layouts. Here are my first 4 attempts at using it:

Don't mind the site - I was attempting a blog before life overtook me.

Oh, and everything that was done there was done for FREE - as in I paid nothing for anything on any of those pages - including the Fonts. 1 was even done using a free template!

Just a suggestion.

I would LOVE it if I could find someone to scrapbook FOR me. I'm so busy and have so much I need to do and I'm just not that creative on scrapbooking. I bought a bunch of stuff and I've even told people they are more then welcome to use it to scrap book for me. I'm willing to buy anything needed for it and pay to have it done. I have GIGS of photos and would love to have it all scrapbooked. I'm just not a person to do it myself and so far can't find anyone who is willing to do it for me. if you know of anyone contact me www.customtaxservices.com

Hi Theresa, you wont be disappointed with the CM Storybook Creator Plus. It was voted the best digital program in 2008. It has now been upgraded and is even more brilliant than before. I am a Creative Memories Consultant and even have a customer in UK using it. She loves it. As do I. I have made quite a few now and I too had an idea of doing them for others. Hope it all goes well for you.
Cheers

I am also a CM consultant and am focusing much of my business on our digital products. I have helped clients do cards and calendars and created books for sports teams and school classes as gifts for coaches/teachers -- then sold them to some of the parents. Groups are a great way to go. I'm also hoping to find individuals who'd like me to do their digital books. CM has always emphasized the importance of telling our life stories and digital is just another way to do it. I'd love to share more with anyone interested in our software or business. www.mycmsite.com/lizsmilor or lizsbizs@dslextreme.com

Oh I have send an email to get more more sites, thanks for the offer.

Quoting Heather:

Hi everyone, I am interested in digital scrapbooking, but not sure where to start. I was at Hobby Lobby and they had some cd for it on clearance and I grabed them. It says that they are for use with" Pixel Magic or another graphic program" does that mean that I can use them with other things?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Heather

Heather,

I would suggest getting a graphic program. I personally love Adobe Photoshop, I use CS3, but you can start with a more user friendly program such as PS Elements 7. As mentioned previously, there are many freebies offered throughout the web, you just need to know where to look. You can start with some digiscrapbooking websites like ScrapMatters, Oscraps, Little Dreamer Designs, Shabby Pickle Designs, The Digichick...there are so many more (you can email me at bcnatty22@hotmail.com if you want some more links). These places also offer digital kits that you can use.

Then it's just like paper scrapping. You start with you paper, add your pics, elements and journaling. All of these online stores also have galleries and forums where you can ask questions and find answers to most common questions associated with digiscrapping.

Hope this helps!

Natasha

Hi Theresa, I'm an independent demonstrator for Stampin Up. We have a package for digital scrapbooking, as well as getting the pictures printed in a book for them. Once they purchase the software package, they can load it on their computers, download the page images and send off to Stampin Up for processing. If they have a photo printer at home they can do it themselves. If any have any questions about this can reach me on my website: http://www.stampinup.net/esuite/home/off... Now is a great time to purchase many items during our biggest event of the year SALE-A-BRATION.

Hi! I'm a CM consultant and I'm also getting paid for the digital work I do for others. I did several books and calendars. If you would like some tips and an example of a contrat, I can help you. I got a bad experience from my first contracts and now I know what needs to be said in advance. The first book I did, took me forever because my contract wasn't clear and I had to change the book over and over again without getting paid!!

You can reach me at chantal1982@hotmail.com and I can send you the informations.

Good luck!!

Pat, If I make something with Heritage Makers, do I have to get it printed through them? Just curious because I have printed 2 calendars for free and several books this year for free, by keeping on top of giveaways (love freebies4moms, they post great deals every day)?

Hi Dani..Heritage Makers offers free use and you get to make books, calendars and much more.. It is like walking into a scrapbooking store and helping yourself to papers, embellishments and alphabets...along with a huge assortment of premade templates to use. This is a calendar that I just made this xmas

they have some really nice ideas!

I have done calendars and pages for others, since journaling is a more personal aspect, I would email a jpeg of the page and ask them to send me a text file of the journaling they would like for the page. I haven't charged my friends for the pages, but I have charged for calendars. The problem with scrapping for someone else and charging is that to be fairly compensated for my time, it makes the pages quite expensive.

Although since everything I use for my pages (other than the Photoshop program) I have acquired for free, everything would be profit. I just can't see why one would pay for scrapbooking sites, there are oodles of freebies available.

I have the CM software myself and absolutely love it. I use it to make calendars, cards, invitations and of course scrapbook. You won't be sorry if you decide to purchase it. It is so user friendly.

Sounds like a good idea, I'm sure there are people out there that would pay for that service.
Pat - I'm a little confused about your statement about differing from CM because you are passionate about helping others preserve their memories through "the power of story". I started scrapbooking with CM many years ago and find them to be exremely passionate about "journeling your stroies" not just pasting pictures in a book.

Hi Theresa..You have an interesting idea! I am a Publishing Consultant for Heritage Makers and what we have to offer others is our scanning service. This is much the same as what you want to do. We scan photos and scrapbook pages. We are one of the fastest growing digital scrapbooking/storybooking companies in the world. We are quite different from Creative Memories as we are very passionate about helping others preserve their memories through 'the power of story'. Our online 'studio' is free to everyone and can be access anywhere you can get internet service. If you are intersted in joining me at Heritage Makers please call me at 877-964-3212 or visit http://www.creatingstories.com
