I was looking at getting the new Nikon D 3000 and was wondering if anyone has this camera. What's your opinion about it and Is it a good buy for someones first SLR camera? PROs and CONs?

Yes I got the extra zoom lens, but no book. It did come with two DVD's but I have not watched them yet.

It's just a book that came with the camera. There was a special deal when I bought it and I got an extra lens it zooms 55 - 200. Did you get that one? It comes in handy.

Quoting Tina:

Yes. I have this camera. I just purchased it about 2 months ago and I love it. It's a little complicated but it's my first Dslr. If you purchase this camera the book and dvd that comes with it are full of vital information! I am still learning about it. You have to consider a lor more than with your basic point and shoot. But it's worth it.

I bought the camera about a week ago. I have a lot to learn. My pakage deal can with a DVD but not a book. What book did you bough?

I've only worked with the D80 and D5000. I prefer the D5000. Great quality. It's on sale at best buy for just under a grand with 2 lenses.

Hi Tara - I've just joined this community. :-) I'm afraid I can't give you any tips on this camera other than to say that it is the one we're looking at purchasing as well. My husband was into photography in a huge way a while back and has so much gear. What we discovered was that the D300 was the only Nikon SLR that can interchange lens so we can still use the ones we have with the new body. From what I can gather, it is a very good one to buy. Hope that helps. :-) Cath
