Personally, I use a software called Image ready to work on my picture, changing contrast, brighnest rezooming and eventually intensifying the colours. Then, when it comes to scrapbooking I use Photoshop and a good scanner.
But you must have had a software given with your canon when you bought it, this software, depending on the one it is should allow you to start digiscrapping...all you have to do first is test a picture with all the tools offered on this software so that you can see the effect they have on your picture and familiarise with them...then you'll be ready to digiscrap ;)

Digital Scrapbooking, also referred to as digi-scrapping or computer scrapbooking, is a fairly new form of scrapbooking which involves the use of a computer and graphics software to create visual layouts for the purpose of preserving a memory. Originally scrapbooking was done using photos and paper, with hand written journal notes and various small embellishment objects and memorabilia such as buttons, ribbons, stickers, and so on.
