I cleaned out the fridge...

That bowl is what is known as a science experiment.

I can't say my fridge is a showpiece, but at least it doesn't have a lot of science experiments in it. When we used to have twice a week trash pick up (Tuesday and Friday) I would go through the fridge every Monday and pitch everything that looked like it's time was up. Now I have to do it on Wednesday because we only have one trash pickup each week and with the summer heat food in the trash becomes a lethal weapon.

In any case, at least once a week all odds and ends must go, That way there is nothing too old for someone to eat (although my kids won't touch left overs).

As far as dishes go, I try to do a few each time I am in the kitchen so I don't end up with a mountain of them, but that doesn't always work, especially in the summer when everyone is home from school.

I seriously think I have gremlins.
I can hear them talking at night.
They have this whole plot to drive me nuts.
They eat crap out the fridge and then put the empty bowl back with the saran wrap ON IT!

I tried the vegetable soup thing...It could work, if I hadn't cooked it to death. It was on the stove maybe an hour or so, and the vegetables all cooked themselves to death. (You don't think I'm going to take the blame for it, do you?)

I bet it was the invisible kid "I don't know" or you have gremlins. Maybe it is one of your pets if you have any. The ghost of our dog is constantly leaving the lid of things when she gets in the fridge, and leaving the light on in the bathroom. It must be her because no one else does it.

Also if you make stew or vegetable soup in the winter, put the leftover vegies in a container in the freezer and keep adding to it. When you make your soup in the winter throw in those veggies with the rest. This is great when you have to much to toss not enough for a serving.

My family seems to have an issue with eating the last anything. I threw away ONE bbq rib...ONE pork chop...ONE spoon of stuffing. WHO is it that decides that last spoon of steamed broccoli belongs in the fridge? Will someone tell me it's okay to throw it away???
And the water bottles! There were EIGHT half empty water bottles in there! Somebody is going on a health kick and it's lasting exactly half a bottle of water long!

Leftover night. One night a week pull out all the leftovers, open up the containers that are still good (discard anything old) and have a buffet style supper. Everyone puts what they want on a plate, and microwaves it. If they get the last of something, they take care of that container. After supper keep anything that's only a day or so old and toss the rest. Keeps your fridge cleaner and saves on cooking one night a week. Sometimes you might have to make a meat or a veggie but most weeks we have enough of everything.

I love your style. My fridge is full of half eaten meals with the silverware stuck to the plates/bowls. They never finish anything I give them. And they claim they are always hungry. I remember back in the day before kids, our fridge was full of to-go boxes. We would go out to eat so often that we had to date the boxes. I miss that. I am a terrible cook. My dad raised me. I guess he wasn't the best cook either. Thank God Mark is a good cook. He was raised by his mom. Go figure.

delayed spring cleaning LOL you know you saved it for something but geesh life happened somewhere in between adn the priority of cleaning that darn fridge out just keeps getting put att eh bottom of my list lately too.
