I'm almost 6months pregnant w/ my second baby. For my first preganancy a lot of my thoughts and energy were about about preparing for childbirth. I took a Bradley method class and had a wonderful natural childbirth w/ a healthy baby. Now I know what to expect I'm not planning to take another class, but putting some mental preparation into childbirth would get me ready again. If you've had multiple children, how did you prepare for their births? I'm thinking that books or movies highlighting positive natural childbirths would get me excited and feeling ready for birthing. Any suggestions?

For my first it was a big production- 22 hours of labor, a doula at my side the whole time- yada yada. It was all natural like I wanted & we had a healthy baby. Second time around I hate to say that I didn't do much. I knew what to expect so there wasn't the big hoopla, but I didn't use a method in the first so I guess I didn't really need to "brush up" on anything. I did read several books about the natural childbirth experience, but there wasn't much new info there. I had numerous prenatal massages (a nice treat for any pregnant mama). I also drank the Earth Mama 3rd trimester tea which I believe led to my MUCH shorter second labor (4 hours). However, it may just be due to the fact that I was more relaxed about the whole affair.

Laura Shanley is a great motivator for natural births. She had five children in the safety of her home medicine free, and her book talks about how natural childbirth is, and how different cultures handle birth. I loved it while i was pregnant with my second daughter and had her stress and drug free with only my husband and mother present. I was so excited for the birth just to experience it again.

I read Ina May which also included some great birth stories. A great documentary is the The Business of Being Born.
