i read in "what to expect the first year" that by 7 months your baby should be able to feed themselves a cracker. my son rarely puts anything in his mouth, so we're having a difficult time getting him to feed himself. if i try to make him put food in his mouth that he's holding, he'll just cry. he just recently started holding his bottle so i'm wondering if's he's behind or just super lazy.

My 8 month old eats cheerios and puffs but I have tried to offer her toast and she is not at all interested... My son ate everything we offered him... All babies are different so don't worry about it!

Some babies do not want to start food yet. we go by 6 months but really a baby may not be ready until later. It is perfectly fine. Its more for fun than nutrition. My son had interest and was feeding himself at 6 months. I do baby led weaning and dont give him puree we just give him whatever we were eating.

Hmmm... its pretty strange that he rarely puts things in his mouth, my 7 month old daughter has been putting EVERYTHING in her mouth for a few months now. Its how babies explore the world. Personally I'd be seeing your doctor about this one. Goodluck, I hope it is just him being lazy :)

my daughter refuses to sit up on her own for more then 30 sec to a minute but she rolls everywhere and is doing the army crawl and almost crawling too, she also gives herself mum mums. She is almost 8 months now. She also doesn't giver herself her bottle. Part of that is because she is a fuss with her bottle and it's the way i hold her to get her to eat when she fusses and her temper she has developed. I have learned from my son and my daughter how different both of my kids are and how much easier my son was with things then my daughter is, I wish i had more of my son on things and i like some of the things i have in my daughter. IF i had the best of both of them i would have the perfect child but that is what makes each child special and different!

My daughter is 7 and a half months old. She feeds herself finger foods, mostly Gerber puffs, and has been for a month or so. But my friend's 9 month old refuses to feed herself. All babies are different (mine just finally started rolling from her back to her stomach) but if it worries you maybe you should give his doctor a call.

watch for putting toys or otjer things in his mouth maybe the cracker doesnt interest him

Putting things in mouths is normally a natural response. If your son is not exploring things with his tongue this is very unusual and maybe worth mentioning to a gp.
