Breast or Bottle? Or both?

I always intend to breastfeed, but we had latching issues (and very little support) when my eldest was born in 97, that I ended up switching to bottles. With my daughter, we started off great, but then there was a death in the family a week after she was born, and I left her behind with her father for three days. The screwy schedule messed with my pumping schedule, and we could never get back on track and she was permanently on the bottle.

This time around, I plan on trying again (third times the charm?) with the added challenge that I'll be going back to work. Thankfully, my work environment will allow me to pump, and I don't anticipate any other issues getting in the way. So we'll see how it goes!

Do you plan on breastfeeding? Or formula? Or both? What's worked for you in the past?

I formula fed with my first son from the start, thank goodness, and definately plan on formula feeding my next son, as well.

With my first i didnt even try breast feeding, i honestly was uncomfortable with it, so i did formula feeding from day one, & thats what i plan on doing with baby number 2.

With my first she spent a week in the hospital after birth but I stuck with it and was still able to get her to breastfeed. Not easy but we did it. With her I did both because I worked but with my son I stayed home and he had a bottle maybe 3 times his whole life, which made switching to a cup really easy! So this time around I have the same plan, Breast only.

With my son, I fully breastfeed until I went back to work. I was unable to pump the full amount of what he needed. I bartend as well, so it makes it difficult to find time to pump at work. Right away we introduced a breast milk bottle so dad was able to feed, so the transition would be easier when going back to work.
This time around, I am going to try and be a pumping machine, I bought the Medela Electric Pump. I splurged on the item, but am hoping on saving from buying formula, as that is super expensive.
Either way you go, do not worry, your baby will be fine whether its breast or formula!

In the past I have always done both breast and bottle. I find it easier so daddy can feed baby too!
Also I would occasionally give formula whenever I didn't have some pumped and my girls were bottle fed. I plan on doing the same with girl #3 too.
I hope you are able to with your third, but if it doesn't work out, at least you tried (some don't even try breast feeding)

This is my first and unless there are issues I am planning on breast feeding and only introducing bottles(breast milk of course) when he has to stay with someone else.

I am planning on breastfeeding. WIth my son we fell into quite a few "booby traps" and breastfeeding was just aout non existant. I was determined that he was going to get breastmilk though and pumped for him until he was 16 months old. I only stopped bc my supply dried up due to being pregnant.
This time around I am super educated on just about everything that can happen and I have the support of all the wonderful ladies in my local LLL.

I'm still breastfeeding my almost one year old (she has never taken a bottle) and plan to breastfeed this baby to. Although we are going to get him on a bottle so I can try to work and so daddy can get up with him in the middle of the night sometimes.

With my first 2 I thought I had a problem with milk production so I only made it a couple months.

I went through the same feelings with #3 but stuck it out and discovered that the constant feeding is a very normal part of breast feeding during the early stages. I started pumping as soon as I could and had a pretty good amount stored up before going back to work. He took a bottle at daycare for a short time but we had him weaned off the bottle by 11 months. I was able to BF him (3x a day) until 14 months and only quit because I was starting to have a hard time finding room for him with my growing belly and didn't intend to tandem nurse.

I now wish I would have stuck with it because I miss nursing him and it would be wonderful to be able to nurse both babies.

I've always done a combination of breastfeeding and formula feeding mainly because I could never keep up with milk production to keep them satisfied soley on breast milk. Especially after I returned to work, pumping was not the same in keeping up my milk production.
