HOWEVER I need some more ideas on decorations and food and all that for a 1st bday. There wont be alot of other children there because my friends dont have children and the ones in my family are older SO with that said any ideas on what to do for fun? How crazy are we going for decorations and all that for our LO's 1st? Some ideas Please and Thank you!

We're doing a barnyard themed party, mainly because he loves the book Barnyard Dance. Not a ton of kids either so we're having it mid-afternoon so all that is needed for food is appetizers. Which is both easy and not too expensive. To make it a little more fun I'm adding names for the apps, like Meatball Mud Pit, Grazing Garden, etc. So it makes it a little more fun. And the only real decorations are the cake, a few balloons, and the Little People farm set we got him. So nothing too crazy or kid-ish but still fun. Thinking he might where overalls too.
Also, just a note on cheap invites. I used Snapfish and made picture invites and printed them out through a local store. For 35 invites it was under $5 and I did a similar thing for his 1 year announcements for family/friends. 95 for under $10. Just a thought.

there arent many little ones going to Riley's either...but we are having riley's theme mickey mouse clubhouse! we are having him a little cake and we are making a big mickey head for our cake...we are also thinking of haveing hot dogs(the hot dog song, and for the adults),chips, cheesy puffcorn(Ri-mans favorite) and some other little baby safe things)and im hanging a lot of ballons(red blue and yellow) upside down(with ribbon) so it covers the ceiling(sp?) we are also going to have a mickey mouse clubhouse poster that i will have everyone there sign(my idea and i love it lol) then we are buying (dollar tree) mickey mouse clubhouse puzzels an we will have the guest get into groups and put them together(then after they do i will tape the front and back sides, so they will later hand on Riley's bedroom walls) ! we arent really doing "games" since there isnt many kids and riley cant play, also another thing you can do is have a quiz about you LO example " How well do you know Riley" and have like fav food, shows, things like that! hope this helps!!!

I had the same problem last year with our oldest daughter and my youngest is turning one next saturday :). I thought about all the wonderful things I wanted my girls to have on their first birthdays because it is a big deal (at least is was to me:) but after I thought about it, she was to small to actually grasp the concept of what is going on so I just bought balloons and streamers and decorated the crap out of the kitchen and livingroom. I didn't buy any special plates or anything themed only because she didn't even notice it. I made it fun for her but with everyone there and all the presents she didn't notice too much. They are at the age where you can get away with not doing all the wow (enjoy it now I have a 7 year old step son and its getting pricey, but fun:) I'm not saying be cheap, just don't stress to much over it he's going to be more into all the attention he's getting from everyone to notice much else. Good luck, and I hope he has a wonderful time whatever you decide to do :)

For my little one, I had hosted a barnyard party. I hosted the party at a petting zoo and the kids had great fun playing with farm animals. Initially, I thought other mommies will not like this idea, as they may worry about kids getting ill due to bacteria but later, I decided that this will be good option to boost natural immunity among them.

My son turns 1 on the 26th, and as a tradition, we are going to Chuck E Cheese's. I know he's too young to really enjoy it, but we are inviting people who have children a little older, and it is where my mom took me for my first birthday. That and all the decorations are already up.. :D

I agree with April about putting the baby down for a nap! We made sure our son went down for a nap before his first party, and he slept about 2 1/2 hours, spililng over into the beginning of the party, but he woke up in time for us to begin eating the appentizers. After opening the presents and after the party was over and most guests had left, he got cranky again so we put him down for another nap, and he slept another 2 hours. For the second party, we had the sit down meal later in the afternoon and we put the baby down for a nap in early afternoon and he slept 3 hours, then when he woke up, he was put in his high chair for his supper, then cake, then presents. He was very content because of the 3-hour nap beforehand. It made a BIG difference!

My son turned 1 on the 11th but we will have his party on the 15th. Since he will not be able to remember much of it, we decided to decorate the house for him. His older brother is 8 & other step siblings are around his age. Soo no one but family will be over & will just take pictures & enjoy the moment. I'm excited for him soo I will make it special for him.

I have a 4 year old son and my daughter turned one yesterday. For my oldest's 1st birthday I went nuts, I spent a fortune and invited the whole huge family, made tons of food, tons of decorations, just the works and TBH I was stressed out and he cried a lot. My biggest piece of advice is to make sure your baby gets a good nap before you start the party or he will be miserable! I made that mistake and he just cried and cried, didn't even want to eat his cake, until I put him down for a nap and he wasn't even at his own party! This year for my daughter's 1st I really kept it low key. I just invited close family and had some appetizers and a Minnie cake with ice cream. Get balloons, babies LOVE balloons! I kept the decorations minimal because one year olds don't notice much. We opened gifts, her big brother helped her and she loved playing with the wrapping paper and bows and we stripped her down and put her in the high chair and let her eat her cake, it was so cute! She was happy, I was happy and our guests were happy and the party was a big success. If I had to do it over again I would have a small party for my oldests, too. The first birthday is about the parents anyways, and of course about making memories so keep it low stress for you so you and baby can enjoy yourselves together!

Oh, I forgot to say, for food, we just served appentizers and a veggie tray with dip, and the cake, that was it. The second party, my parents had a sit down meal, and my mom made a roast beef with all the fixings, since the baby loves her roast beef dinner, and then the cake.

My son just turned 1 on January 9th. We had two separate parties for him. The first, for my husband's family, who lives a 6-hour drive away, and our friends. We got two bunches of balloons with helium in them and stood them up on the floor, and we got an I'M ONE! hat for the baby and decorated with a Winnie the Pooh theme, although we tried to make Tigger the main decoration because our baby is just like Tigger! That was just about the extent of the decorating. The second party was at my parents' house on his actual birthday, and my mom decorated the dining room table with different books and toys for the baby, and she used the cake as a centrepiece, with toddler toys scattered on the cake. Both parties were simply decorated, but still looked nice.

For a them something simple like winnie the pooh or something your son likes.here are some games:this one is called dress the baby Guests are divided into groups of three. One guest is named "baby" and the other two are fashion designers. Each group is equipped with an oversized t-shirt and scissors. Teams must come up with a baby design, such as a onesie or diaper. another one is:This game is very easy-prep. Simply purchase enough baby bottles for each guest. Fill each bottle with your choice of drink, or choose from these

* Soda
* Juice
* Warm milk
* Prune juice
* Something sour! hope it helped

Hi, congrats on the approaching 1st b-day! My daughters was yesterday. We did a wonder pets theme. Just some balloons and table cloths. Everything else you can go cheaper with red or another matching color to bring it all together. My daughter LOVES animals so we did an animal show. The guy was great! The kids and adults got to touch and play with some of them. My daughter was having a ball crawling around with a tourtus that was bigger then her and some bunnies! I only had 7 kids at the party, but it was great because each one of them really got to see the animals up close and play with them. The adults loved it too!

My son turns one on friday and we are having his party saturday at noon. We are having a simple lunch: sloppy joe sandwiches, hot dogs, baked beans, chips, and cake and ice cream. I am not having a theme for him. I got a big bird cake that I am making and some balloons for decorations.

My daughter was 1 on the 2nd and we kept her party very simple. I had a cake made, brought in some crackers, dip, nuts, and animal cookies. I made pink lemonade instead of a punch. For decorations, I got colorful tablecloths, plates, forks, napkins, etc at Dollar Tree. I took a bunch of pictures of Emma and used them as centerpieces (framed and unframed) with a Happy Birthday balloon tied to a small goody bag of candy. Each kid got to go home with a balloon (or each family can if you don't have many kids coming). I got the balloons at Dollar Tree too. Kept the party super cheap by shopping there!

Jungle animal theme - found plates on birthday in a box.com and have someone making a cool cake. As for food - sandwiches and stuffed shells or eggplant parm. Decorating with balloons of monkeys, tigers, zebras. And we're doing it at home so if he gets tired - he can just nap in his own crib.

So everything goes along with snow, snowmen, penguins, igloos...etc. And our colors are pink, purple, and silver! If you want specifics, I can help you out.

My daughter turns 1 on the 27th too, I can't believe it is already here. I'm having the same problem because one of my friends just threw a first birthday party with a caterer and a carosel...umm yeah, we can't do that. I think we are going to do some simple decorations (most of which I made) I made a special onesie, we are doing some fun colored plates and I am making a boat load of cupcakes...just have fun and maybe get a sentimental gift that she will enjoy later in life
