Hello,

I will be 35 weeks tomorrow (Friday) and I spent the past two days in L&D stopping my contractions. My Contractions were every 3 minutes and my cervix was begenning to open. Finally, last night I was discharged with the contractions have being stopped. I saw a high risk docotor yesterday afternoon and he did an ultrasound. He said that my baby was fully developed and 6 pounds 5 ounces! And there was no reason not to let him come now. Well, after my doc had spoken with the high risk doctore she STILL gave me a rx for a med to take at home to stop the contractions if they start up again. I am really confused and dont know what to do now. Any advice? And how many moms had their babies early even though they had contractions stoppped?

I had my daughter at 35 weeks she was 5 pounds 13 ounces with not a single thing wrong with her. I took her home the next day. With this pregnancy im 34 weeks and im already dilated to 3and a half to 4 centimeters. My doctor pumped me with steriods incase he came so his lungs would be mature but he said when i make it to the 35 week mark he would be fine without the steriods and that was the case with my daughter. I wouldnt worry!!

I would say hang tight and be compliant with the OB's advice. The truth is the longer you can hold out the better it is for your baby. These days 35 weekers fare just fine with all the advances in neonatology that have occurred over the last thirty or so years. Heck, I have cousins who were born at 29 and 32 weeks respectively and are just fine. That being said, the best incubator is your womb.
Kids are pretty amazing in that they know when it is time to come out and see the world. Sometimes, despite our best plan.
