Hi Everyone,
I could use some help with my 10 month old son. Due to the weather he has a stuffy nose and it is affecting his sleep. I tried using saline and the bulb thingy to suck out the mucous but he fights and screams. Does anyone know of a better way I can help him breathe better without the resistence?

Thank you.

Johnson's vapor bath ALWAYS helps both my boys colds. The nose will run like crazy, but they are in the bath so it works fine. Then vicks on the chest and feet while sleeping. They wake up like new boys. Also, a little vicks when getting dressed gets them through a good part of the day.
My doctor also has suggested doing either the saline or the bulb suction. He said the saline is used to get everything loose so the nose can "run." This will start to teach their body how to get rid of the mucus. Of course if there is a lot of mucus then I'll still do some suction to help the process along.

I know this sounds crazy but it really works! put the baby vicks rub on his feet then put socks on! it also helps with a cough. And I do believe he can have some mucinex, ask your doc but I do believe I had to give it to my son when we got RSV 8 weeks ago

This is one of my all time favorite tricks and it really works wonders! Rub a fair amount of vicks baby rub on the bottom of your baby's feet and cover with socks. with in a few hours he will be feeling so much better. do it again before bedtime and by morning you wont even know he was sick! If he refuses to keep socks on, put them on under footed pajamas. try it it really does work. (works for parents too!)

We bought a mist humidifier at CVS...the kind that has a slot for liquid vicks...it really helped all of us breathe better.

Try using a humidifier at night when he sleeps, keep his head elevated a little bit. You can also try a little vicks.

Hot humidifier with Eucalyptus oil. It works well for respiratory infections. Make sure your room has humidity at 70% or up. Get a thermometer plus humidity indicator from Walmart. Do wipe down the windows in the morning though or it gets pretty damp. My doctor said I can use tiger balm (regular strength) on them. Rub some on their feet and put socks on. I rub a little on his chest too. I know it is marketed for muscle soreness but it works everything. My mom used that stuff on me for tummy ache to headaches to cold and cough. Just make sure your little one can't touch it and rubs his eyes with it. You can use saline and suck it out and the body just makes more. So I only suck it out if it really bothers him and before breast feeding. Saline alone can help the breathing though.

A vicks vapor bath wash while in the tub, then we run the hot water while the bath water is draining and he breaths in the steam, next is vicks vapor rub on his chest and soles of his FEET, warm socks, a onsie, a sleep and play and then a sleep sack. We have a cool mist humidifier that we run while he is sleeping. Because when you are sick you want to be pampered and then warm and cozy, so your baby does too :o)
I also just started giving him luke warm camomile tea and chicken soup (blended) - he LOVES it!

you can buy a nasal aspirator plus made by hydraSense... YOU hyave to suck it out of their nose but there is a filter so you don't get anything in your mouth... I think it works great

Did you try using a warm mist humidifier? Your run it in the room and it blows moisture into the air.

my son has been sick for 3 weeks now but the first week has HORRIBLE. he wouldnt sleep and he was exhausted. we just tried warm/hot baths when he was cool enough and luke warm baths when he was hot, it will help with his nose. i also put baby chest rub on the back of his neck and front of his chest. and then put a little under his nose. actually u could ask ur doctor but my doctor said i could use some allergy med to help with the nose. it will also maybe help him sleep too

other than that theres not much u can do.
