My 6 week old has only had breast milf, I just recently started pumping my milk to fed him a bottle. Now I feel like I am not producting enough milk for him. I will only fill up half a 4 oz bottle and that is using both breasts. What can I do to pump more milk, I really do not want to go to formula just yet. Is there anything I can do? I try to pump as much as I can every 2 to 3 hours. Is that too much....to less?

That sounds like the best advice, I knew it was supply and demand, I did everything you did, so I'm going to try your method, thanks so much!!!!!!

My daughter is 5 weeks yesterday and i had the same problem. So i started pumping inbetween feedings then i thought i was cutting her short so i pumped after feedings and got little to nothing! Then my aunt toold me its supply and demand, you want to produce more pump longer! (After you get ur supply up) I feed on one side for 20 min while pumping the other and the next time swap it up! But i store my milk just in case i cant feed any longer she can still have breast milk to eat for a while!!!!!

I definitely agree with Beth-- you're producing plenty. My baby is the same age, gaining weight well (started at 9 1/2 lbs) and I pump about the same amount as you are (with the same results). As far as too much, my pediatrician told me that it was impossible to overfeed a baby on your own breast milk. I wouldn't worry about it, but I also know this is the number 1 concern of most breastfeeding mothers. If there's a La Leche League chapter near you, you should definitely stop by. They can do much to allay your concerns and answer questions about breastfeeding.

4 oz pumped after feeding , wow , thats a lot of milk , do the math 4 oz every 2 hours feeding equals 48 ounces a day , thats more than a quart of milk, and youre just counting what you get "extra" after feeding the tyke, so your supply sounds like its more than adequate also remember baby gets more milk out of you than the pump does , due to hormones and efficency in nursing

i dont think youre short of milk , most 6 week old babies only eat about 4 oz of formula at a feeding , and thats taken in every 4 hours, so honestly i think your supply is fine, and youre fretting over nothing right now, hes in a growth spurt , so its not gonna seem like hes getting enough unless you let him latch for 24 hours straight

Pump after each feeding. This will stimulate your breasts to produce more. 4 ozs is good if he hasn't eaten, if that's after a feeding that's great. There are herbal supplements you can take like fenugreek, it worked for me.
