So my son is going to be 5mths on the 16th...we started solids every once in a while since around the start of his 4th mth...i am going to start trying to give solids to him once a day almost everyday except when he is to impatient to eat it...but anyways when i feed him a whole thing of baby food he still wants a 6oz. bottle afterwards...is that normal?

Thanks ♥

If he's drinking it, he must be hungry! I say feed them if they're hungry.

Our Dr told us to go ahead and start replacing some of her milk with food. She still nurses in the mornings, and gets cereal with fruit and a small bottle around noon. Her afternoon feeding is usually a 6 oz bottle followed about an hour later by cereal with fruit and a veggie. I try to slip in a little more cereal and a nice big bottle right at bedtime, but sometimes she only gets the bottle. Of course if she acts hungry at any given point in the day we offer her a small bottle and some fruit. Your baby will let you know when he's full. Do try spacing out cereal and formula a little bit, though. He may not be as hungry as he thinks he is because the cereal doesn't hit his stomach the same way formula does. Try the bottle first to take the edge off his hunger and encourage patience and then go for the cereal.

my son takes 2 8oz bottles a day..one in the 9am feeding and one before bed with 2 7oz bottles inbetween that a day around 12ish-1pm and 4ish-5pm..i also add in 2 snacks of a fruit or veggie and he gets cereal with fruit as WELL as his 8oz bottle since he doesnt consume more then 30oz of formula a day! so i would say ur fine! if hes only getting one feeding a day of cereal ur deffinitely ok!

At this age solids shouldn't be replacing bottles. Mine is taking the same amount of formula, we have just added in oatmeal and fruit in the mornings, and a fruit and veggie @ dinner. It's not until they are older that they will start taking enough baby food to replace the nutrients they get in the bottle.

My son always seems to be super hungry after eating his cereal, too, so I give him a full bottle afterwards. If your son is hungry, I'd feed him

The bottle is still very important for him, his main source of nutrients is from the bottle not solids. Starting babies on solids is just helping them get used to something else until their bodies need the nutrients from solid food. I was told to always offer bottle first and solid food AFTER they have finished their bottle.

I think it depends on each child...I would talk to the doctor. My daughter is tall, but small for her age, so that would be too much for her. That might be just right for him though.
