Boiled/tap water?

My son is 6 months tomorrow and someone told me I can start giving him tap water instead of cooled boiled water to drink from 6 months... Does anyone else do this? It would be so much easier! Also, if you can give them tap water to drink on its own, then does that mean you can make up their bottles with tap water too, or still use boiled water for bottles?!

oh, and it does say that you can use normal tap water over 6 months but formula still has to be boiled, forgot to say x

i have researched this for a friend and found this link:

http://www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/p...

it's guidance from the Food Standards Agency in the UK and find this hugely useful, hope it helps you too (there is a section for drinks, think it's around page 20-22)

My son is almost 1 yr and after seeing a post and article on the amount and effects of floride in the tap water I'm going to give him formula mixed with filtered water. I had been giving him tap water to mix with his formula, and with his teething, I've been giving him regular tap water to drink. I regret not knowing about floride before in our tap water. I'm going to do filtered water from now on.

I give my daughter cooled boiled water. I also work in childcare and up to the age to 18months-2 years we still give them cool boiled water.

as soon as they are putting stuff in their mouths you can stop boiling your water (either to drink or to mix with formula). I was told that if they are putting their germy little hands in their mouths the tap water would be fine as long as there isn't a water advisory for your area.

I started giving my daughter just plain tap water and she seems fine.. I didn't even think to boil it and let it cool before giving it to her.. She is mailnly breastfed but likes water

I think I might just start giving him some occasionally... maybe tap water from sippy cup with meals and boiled water for bottles?

I still use boiled water but one of my friends never boiled the water and her kid is perfectly healthy. I have occasionally given him plain tap water as the kettle has been hot when I needed to feed him and it didn't hurt him.

I give my little guy water from the brita jug in the fridge, and I still boil the tap water to make his formula, not sure if this helps
