My 8 weeks old son refused to latch when he developed congested chest n troubled breathing, so i gave him breast milk via bottle for 2-3 days. it seemed to ease him a lot. Still he is not latching on as he is not cured 100% but im having a feeling that he is gonna say BYE to breast n will continue with bottle. as im a stay home mom, this thought is disturbing... any suggestions?

put him on the breast as much as possible and take away the bottles. You may have shorter more frequent feeds for a few days but you need to retrain him and take away the bottle. Also try saline drop in his nose about 15-30 minutes before a feed that will help to drain some junk out and hopefully help him breath easier so he can nurse. Good luck, it would be so sad to see him refuse the breast this early.

I was bottle feeding breastmilk for almost 2 weeks and then switched to a nipple shield for 2 weeks. My daughter now feeds direct from the breast. As long as you can keep your supply you have a chance he will go back on the breast and if not you can bottlefeed expressed milk.

Yes fenugreek is the best thing in the world. My daughter nursed for the first month and then I developed a infection called mastitis....its like a yeast infection of the nipples. no discharge or anything, just very painful and red and cracking. I had to use nystatin cream and it seems to go away but when i try to nurse again it seems to not be gone after all. I was using fenugreek and drinking yogi brand tea they have one for nursing mothers. They worked but to pump hurt as well as nursing so I have her on formula. Very upsetting but i rather her eat and be satisfied then be hungry bc im in so much pain. Dont let it get you down..but definitely try the fenugreek...

by the way are you muslim? Just bc your name is Arabic...I am muslim just curious.

I totally agree with you Sara. I myself am also a working mom. I did end up drying up because i would work 8 hours at a time and come home and he would be sleeping...but since youre a stay at home mom you could always offer it to him...my baby had bronchitis and really turned away from the breast for a while as well...but he came right back to me after he got a little better...just remember to keep pumping and if you notice your flow going down some try Fenugreek...its an all natural herbal supplement to increase milk flow...you take 3 tablets with every meal (3 meals). its amazing!!!!

I would wait untilt he's no longer congested and see if he will take the breast again. Don't worry yourself until you know for sure. I'm a working, breastfeeding mother. My son takes a bottle and breast, and he hasn't shown favor for one or the other. Let's face it, breasts are bigger than bottles. Maybe he just needs a break?
