C section OR Natural?

I am really thinking of having a C section rather then that natural way of doing things! Which is better? I am really worried about having a normal birth!

I'm def on the natural side of this debate for reasons for both mom n baby.
I won't go on about them it would take too long.
I would only get a c-sec if there was a possible danger to me or my baby.
We wouldn't be havin babies if our bodies werent able, some are just unfortunate that things don't go well for them

i have had 4 natural births then a c section, had baby number 6 naturally as a VBAC and am pregnant with number 7 who i also plan on having as a VBAC i found it alot easier to have a natural delivery i hated having a c section but it was nessersay i would definatey say natural delivery dont get me wrong even after so many kids im still nervous and not looking forward to the pain but once you've delivered you just get on with things as normal whereas a section takes so long to recover good luck in whatever you decide

Unfortunately, I have to have a C-Section with this baby bc I had one with my son as well. I would def prefer to have a vaginal birth just because I don't like the down time with c-sections. Plus, my incision partially opened back up with my first one!

I had a natural vaginal delivery (no epidural) for my son (2008) and it really was not that bad. And I don't consider myself as having a high pain tolerance. I used positioning and meditation to get me through the discomfort. The great thing about that was I was able to be up and walking right away and home within 23 hours. C-section = surgery so there is risk and a healing process that is involved. Personally, I would not opt for surgery unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary (failure of labor to progress, fetal distress, etc). Best of luck with your decision. Wishing you a happy, healthy delivery.

I had a natural birth with my 1st daughter(3 day induction n had an epidural) didnt get up n walkin until the following day approx 16hours experienced 6weeks of discomfort from a minor tear n bleeding for 6 weeks. With my 2nd daughter I had a c-section due to baby not growin was up walking n showered 4 hours later did have a bit of a hunch back for a day but didnt suffer from any belly pain had minor back pain tho. I felt my recovery from the section was faster than natural was drivin a week later, could pick up my 2year old within the week bleeding stopped within a few days n only took panadol for a few days just due to backpain yet took painkillers for 6weeks after natural.. I believe everyone is different n if I was given the chance I probably would of had another natural birth but after having a section I prefer that anyday. My 3rd is also another repeat section..

Best of luck with the choice you make..

I am going natural and hear is why
1) Quicker recovery
2) No ugly scar
3) No weight restrictions
4) No driving restrictions
5) No major surgery

Quoting Melissa:

i had to have a c-section with m daughter because i would not dialate. my dr strongly recomends to have a repeat c-section and im all for it;. yeah the recovery time is a little longer but i have talked to girls who have had natural and ripped or had to have an episitomy and they said that was the worst thing ever. once you have a section your better off for you adn baby to have repeat ones and not go natural. good luck!

Its NOT TRUE that once you've had a caesarean its safer to stick with them - do your research before you commit to a second operation!!

The main reason docs seem to tell you to opt for a repeat C over a VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) is a risk of rupture - however the risk is THE SAME whether you have a VBAC or a repeat C, the percentage risk either way is LESS THAN 1%, and the majority of "ruptures" are benign dehiscences rather than ruptures and heal on their own with no permanent damage - a lot less damage than a C scar!!

The ONLY time in my practice I have ever seen a rupture was a woman having her fourth C-section. She had never been in labour for any of her pregnancies, so the cause of the rupture was nothing to do with labour, and everything to do with too many scars.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, anybody who thinks they have to have a repeat C just because they've had one before - there is LOADS of research out there saying that VBACs are significantly safer than a repeat C for mums and bubs, and in fact almost all the reasons to have a repeat C have been proven to be myths.

If your doctor is hell-bent on you having a repeat, talk to a midwife or get a second opinion from another doctor, or simply do your research and confront them. It is in your best interests!

I am a strong advocate for NATURAL birth!
I am a student midwife and have seen hundreds of women recovering from birth, and recovering from natural is ALWAYS easier for both mother AND baby than after a Caesarean. I could also give you a list longer than my arm about the risks and benefits of both methods but thats probably TMI for this thread :-P
There are always exceptions when it is going to be safer for either mum or bub (or both) to opt for the C, but if there is no valid medical reason, a C just poses greater risks and a more difficult recovery for all involved.
I am planning to have my little one drug-free (see how that goes, lol), but even if I end up using everything on the pain-relief menu I know that it's still better for me and for bubs than a birth in theatre!

i had my daughter natural and a couple years later i had to have one of my overies removed which is the same sergery as a c section and in my opinion the healing and pain after the sergery was 100 times worse then the healing of a natural birth. so i say do a vaginal birth with or without drugs.

NATURAL ALL THE WAY! Sorry, didn't mean to shout :) I've had 2 natural births, one with an epidural, one just in the birthing pool. The one in the pool was easier, less painful, less stressful and more rewarding than the epidural and I was on my feet and on with life after a couple of days rest in the maternity unit.
Remember, a c-section is essentially MAJOR surgery, and the recovery time is about 7 weeks. I have no problem with people who choose them, or people who need them, but if you HAVE a choice, natural is the best way for you and baby :)

I had natural the first time. Im due in jan and i would like to have natural again, i just cant see having my stomach cut open! It takes a while to heal and you have to stay in the hospital longer also! I would rather have natural!

i have had both. but most doctors are not going to let you have a c section just because you want one because you think it will be easier. usually they will only do it if you have a reason to have one. now if you have had one and they are giving you the option of vag or csection id say it depends on your pain tolerance. i have had both and each one has its good points and its bad points. if your doc is letting you choose then its gonna have to be a decision that you make.

I had a c-section with my first child after being induced and not progressing. Now I am due with my 2nd and I am on the fence about having another c-section or vaginal delivery. I was stuck in bed for a day or two. When I had to get out of bed, I was completely bent into an L shape! But a nurse gave me some great advice. She said keep walking around. I did and I recovered very fast. Also, when you laugh or cough you must have a pillow to hold over that area of your belly b/c it will hurt! It is a major surgery & your body will have to deal with having the surgery and a baby. It wasn't a bad experience for me at all. If you do it vaginally, I would say make sure they let you walk around. I was induced and in labor for 10hrs and I had to sit in the bed the entire time b/c they had a fetal monitor on me. I think things might have went better if I could've moved more. If you have c-section, remember it is still childbirth. Unfortunately, I knew some people who discredited it as so. Either way you have the baby you gave birth and it is a wonderful experience. I wish you luck and I hope you make the best decision!

I have had 2 c sections and due to have a third! My first boy was breech and the second i had pre eclampsia. It definately would have been easier to have normal deliveries for the recovery time. Good luck with what u decide x

Sweetie, you are one of millions of women who have had children, and you are perfectly capable of having a "normal" birth! :) In my opinion, unless there are extreme circumstances, a C-Section is just an unnecessary surgery. I have not had one, but I hear the recovery time is MUCH longer than a vaginal birth and much more painful while you're trying to care for your newborn. You are a wonderful, strong woman and your body was made to give birth vaginally. Trust your body. Trust yourself. Trust nature. You will do GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I had my first natural-no pain meds and it hurt! But I am doing it all over again, and won't be changing a thing! I walked to my room after birth and was eating and home the next day! I loved it

hi i had a c.section with my fourth child because my third child got stuck with shoulder dystioa, the only problem i had with the section was the walkin afterwards i felt like a hunch back of notre dame lol, every body is different i presume had 3 natural births the a section, im 7 months pregnant with my 5th now and that has to be a section to because of the trauma with the 3rd, so really its upto the individual i think xxxx

i'm pregnant with my 3rd baby. my first two were all natural, no pain meds or anything. and honestly it wasn't that bad. don't get me wrong it did hurt but more pressure than pain. and the nice thing is if you do go vaginal like i did you can always ask for meds. with this baby they're going to give me a c-section and i am so scared!!! if it was up to me i would have another vaginal birth. after giving birth i was up walking around within 30-45 minutes, i didn't have to take any meds for the pain that followed delivery and it was just such an easy recovery. everything about having a c-section really scares me

i would do natural cause alot of problems can occur with c-sections...plus if you have a c-section you're not suppose to lift anything for 6 weeks

I had an emergency c- section with my daughter and would give anything to have a natural birth. While I was up about 12 hours later and showered and walkiing around it's a much longer recovery, I wasn't allowed to lift anything heavier than the baby for a month, no driving for 2 weeks (which is hard if you have to take your baby to the doctor every other day for weight checks), and it was close to a year before the area where the incision was felt semi normal again. I still don't have feeling in the area where they cut. I have to have another for this baby due to my size vs his size and hopefully it will be easier (they say second ones are) but if I had the choice I would seriously go normal (with drugs of course:)

I had a c-section with my Daughter.. she was late and everything we tried diffident work. I think the hard part of it all is not lifting anything for 6weeks really that was hard! the 1st 4 days or so was hard but after that its pretty easy your up walking 24hrs later and taking and shower and everything so really its up to you on what you want to do.. I will be having another one also with the twins.

every moms pain tolerace is different, i had natural, no epidural, with my son. wasnt as hard as i thought it would be, but still very painfull. i am thinking about having an epidural this time, still vaginal birth, i prefere it to a c-section. having a normal birth was a really great experence for me!
